Greenwich Time (Sunday)

I can dream, can’t I?

- Greenwich resident Don Hermann is author of “What is the Meaning of Life (And 92 other things I don’t have answers to)?”

• That the Civil War did end.

• That hate is not a solution for fear or lack of understanding.

• That minority leaders act more like Martin Luther King, Jr., and devote more time to being active and less time writing books and showing up on TV.

• That members of Congress act more like adults and less like children.

• That Elon Musk uses some of his money and ability to unite people, not divide them.

• That the Donald Trumps of the world are recognized for what they really are. Cowards. And Destructive.

• That Congress is devoted to putting people first and not themselves.

• That the Democrats have a Communications Program that actually communicates.

• That there be term limits for Congress.

• That there be term limits for federal judges.

• That people understand that a lie is a lie no matter how it is sugar-coated.

• That the Republicans get backbone transplants.

• That there be quotas for the number of broadcast stations a person or organization can control.

• That news programs become news programs again, not news shows.

• That there are licensing standards for all content in broadcast and cable media.

• That there are time limits and financing limits for campaigns for federal offices.

• That Congress spend more time representing their constituents and not the fat cats.

• That there is complete transparency as to who donates and how much is donated to political campaigns over a certain amount.

• That there is one year of public service at age 18 or when graduating high school whether it be military or other full-time commitment.

• That upon completing public service financial aid be provided for advanced education where income criteria is met.

• That destructive people such as the Mitch McConnells, Lindsey Grahams, Marco Rubios be voted out and replaced with people who understand the purpose of the Senate. That “No” is not always the answer.

• That people realize Jim Jordan and the sycophants of Trump are worse than useless and do nothing more than waste time, money and space. And use hate as a tool to gain influence.

• That corporations and high earners pay their fair share of taxes

• That Joe Manchin acknowledges and shows appreciation for the financial aid West Virginia receives from the federal government compliments of blue states.

• That understanding isolating ourselves internationally cuts business opportunities and friends. And does more damage than good.

• That religions be more open minded and more current.

• That all people engaged in the Jan. 6 riot be punished.

• That equal rights be equal rights.

• That the Democrats don’t give the world away

• That the gurus on cable media stop talking to themselves and communicate more meaningful solutions to problems

• That historians pay as much attention to Trump’s history as they do to Lincoln’s. It will give a clearer picture of his real motivation for his diversionary tactics and need to be president. What did he mean when he said: “If I lose I may have to leave the country?”

• That journalists, political gurus, and all those so-called authorities pay more attention to a quote of Maya Angelou “You can’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been.”

• That a special thanks be paid to all the members of the January 6 Committee for showing courage, decency, honesty and respect for what the United States of America is all about.

• That political experts stop wasting time going over polls, which are generally meaningless.

• That those same people stop relying on Focus Group Research which is about as accurate as the polls.

• That Democrats understand that setting priorities is a priority. It should precede whatever else is on their plate.

• That Twitter is used for more in-depth purposes

• That Democrats stop whining and have their messaging more benefit oriented. People are crying out to see some fight. Some fire. Some enthusiasm. Slogans such as ”Build Back Better” talk to themselves and not to the public.

• That the Murphy Gun Law, well intentioned and heralded around the country, comes closer to its objectives. Check the latest statistics on how many young people have been shot this year.

• That I am able to communicate directly with my Senators and Congressman. But they have turned a deaf ear to my continued efforts to bring fresh ideas to the table for both them and the Democratic Party.

• My dreams become nightmares thinking about what the Republicans want to do to this country. And the lack of meaningful responses by the Democrats.

• I dream that all Americans treat America with the respect it deserves. In an imperfect world it’s about the best there is.
