Greenwich-based Girls with Impact to host benefit concert in NYC

- By Jailene Cuevas

Girls with Impact, a Greenwich-based leadership program, will be bringing a musical performance to New York City in the hopes of supporting young women during International Women’s Day.

The event will take place at the Town Hall, 123 W. 43rd St., on March 8 and will feature live performances by multi-platinum recording artist Ally Brooke, “America’s Got Talent” winner Darci Lynne and singer/songwriter Valerie Simpson.

“These performers know through grit, talent and passion what it means to succeed. For this International Women’s Day, they are paying it forward, helping the generations to follow through scholarships that will help close the wealth gap and change futures,” said Girls With Impact CEO Jennifer Openshaw.

The benefit concert will raise funds to turn girls into leaders with Girls With Impact, the business and leadership academy for young women 12 to 24 years old. The program is an online entrepreneurship program that offers a 10-week mini MBA program.

“We need to train the next generation to lead and there’s lots of studies that show a young woman’s confidence drops by as much as 30 percent by age 13,” she said in a past interview with Hearst Connecticut Media. “The outcomes we see from the program are off the charts: 85 percent of our graduates feel an increase in confidence. And they come out of the program with a real business plan for a start-up or nonprofit.”

Brooke and Lynne will each award Girls with Impact scholarships for young women in Texas and Oklahoma, according to the press release. The event will recognize top leaders in business, philanthropy and public service for their contributions in advancing women.

“As a performer and partner to such famous artists as Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, and Patti LaBelle, I know first-hand what it takes to achieve dreams,” Simpson said in the news release. “That’s why I’m so excited to join Girls With Impact at this

year’s International Women’s Day Benefit Concert in New York.”

Tickets for the events,

which will take place at 7 p.m., can be purchased on Ticketmaster and range from $68 to $298.
