No. 2 QU shuts out Clarkson

Yaniv Perets stopped 16 shots to record his seventh shutout of the season as the No. 2 Quinnipiac men’s hockey team beat Clarkson 3-0 on Friday in Potsdam, N.Y.

Collin Graf opened the scoring for Quinnipiac (23-3-3, 15-2-0 ECAC) with a second-period goal. TJ Friedmann and Sam Lipkin each added a thirdperio­d goal.

Clarkson fell to 12-14-3 (6-9-2 ECAC).

Union 3, Yale 1: At Schenectad­y, N.Y., Cole Donhauser had the lone goal for the Bulldogs (5-15-4, 4-11-2 ECAC) in an ECAC road loss on Friday.

Union improved to 12-15-2 (6-10-1 ECAC).

Air Force 5, Sacred Heart 4: At Fairfield, Neil Shea scored a pair of goals, but it was enough for the Pioneers in an Atlantic Hockey loss on Friday.

Todd Goehring and Hunter Sansbury also scored for Sacred Heart (1413-2, 12-7-2 AHA).

Three of the five goals for Air Force (11-16-2, 7-11-1 AHA) came on the power play, including a pair from Sam Brennan.

Men’s basketball

Niagara 79, Quinnipiac 73: At Lewiston, N.Y., Braxton Bayless knocked down six free throws in the final minute to help Niagara pull out a win over Quinnipiac on Friday.

Noah Thomasson had 21 points with nine rebounds and eight assists for the Purple Eagles (14-9, 9-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Bayless was 5 of 7 shooting and 8 of 10 from the free throw line to add 18 points. Harlan Obioha shot 4 of 5 from the field and 3 for 6 from the line to finish with 11 points, while adding 11 rebounds.

The Bobcats (17-8, 8-6) were led in scoring by Luis Kortright, who finished with 25 points. Quinnipiac also got 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals from Ike Nweke. In addition, Tyrese Williams finished with 10 points.

Rider 58, Fairfield 57: At Lawrencevi­lle, N.J., Allen Powell hit a pull-up mid-range jumper with seven seconds left to lift Rider to a 58-57 win over Fairfield on Friday.

Powell shot 8 for 16, including 2 for 7 from beyond the arc and finished with 18 points for the Broncs (14-9, 11-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Dwight Murray Jr. was 4 of 11 shooting (2 for 5 from distance) to add 11 points. Mervin James shot 4 of 7 from the field and 2 for 3 from the line to finish with 10 points, while adding 10 rebounds. The Broncs picked up their eighth straight victory.

The Stags (10-14, 6-8) were led by Supreme Cook, who posted 16 points. Fairfield also got 12 points from Allan Jeanne-Rose. In addition, Jalen Leach had nine points.
