Robert W. Horan, of Old Greenwich, CT, died of natural causes on December 26, 2023, at the age of 101.

Bob was born June 29, 1922, in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late Lawrence J. and Marie (Keeshan) Horan. Bob was predecease­d by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy (McCoy); brothers, John Joseph (Susan) Horan of St. Louis, MO, Lawrence J. (Patricia) Horan of Pales Verdes Estates, CA; sisters, Jane (Everett) Hunkins, and Anne (Harry) Hegeman, both of St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law, Walter A. McCoy of Greenwich, CT. Bob is survived by his two sons, John (Catherine) and Robert W. Jr. of Old Greenwich, CT; as well as 23 nieces and nephews.

Bob was an alumnus of St. Louis University High School, St. Louis University and Washington University in St. Louis.

During the Second World War, Bob served as Sergeant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and Army Air Force 51st Fighter Control Squadron in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater. As a radio specialist, he participat­ed in jungle field operations, and was awarded two Bronze Star Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic and Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War Two Victory Medal for service in action, including the Myitkyina, Central Burma and BurmaIndia Campaigns.

After returning from the war, Bob embarked on a lifelong career in publishing and advertisin­g sales. First, with the St. Louis Post Dispatch, then Glamour Magazine in Chicago and New York; and in 1962, he joined National Geographic Magazine in New York, where he spent the rest of his distinguis­hed career, retiring as Director of Internatio­nal Editions.

Bob will be remembered as a true gentleman, for his devotion to his family, his strong faith and spirit, his kind nature, a keen sense of humor and for making the best BLT and split pea soup in town.

Family will receive friends at Castiglion­e Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road, Greenwich, CT, from 4 p.m.7 p.m., Wednesday, January 10th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 11, 2024, 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside, CT. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, New York.
