Lamont nominates former mayor to Superior Court
Pedro E. Segarra, the former mayor of Hartford, has been nominated by Gov. Ned Lamont to become a Superior Court judge.
The 64-year-old lawyer's name is among 22 people from throughout the state whose nominations, which were announced by Lamont's office on Friday, will next be reviewed by the legislative Judiciary Committee.
Segarra served as mayor of Hartford from 2010 until 2015, when he lost a primary bid for reelection to fellow Democrat Luke Bronin. In 2018, then-Gov. Dannel Malloy nominated Segarra to the Workers' Compensation Commission, where he is currently an administrative law judge.
“One of the most notable honors of my responsibilities as governor is to fill vacancies in our court system with capable jurists whose qualifications meet the high standards that the people of Connecticut deserve on the bench,” Lamont said in a statement. “This group of nominees I am forwarding to the legislature today continues this administration's effort to ensure that the people who are serving as judges in our state reflect the diversity, experience, and understanding of the people who live here.”
Segarra is a graduate of the University of Hartford and the University of Connecticut School of Law. He is a former president of the Hartford City Council and has been the city's corporation counsel. He also served as a deputy assistant state's attorney.
