It is with immense sorrow that the family of Ryan Terrance Selwood announces his untimely and tragic passing while in Portugal with his work colleagues on April 4, 2024, at the age of 51. Ryan is survived by his beloved wife, Meredith (Conacher) Selwood, and his sons, Everett and Lochlan.

Also suffering this unspeakable loss are Ryan’s parents, Bonnie (Murdison) and Brad Selwood; his brother, Kevin Selwood; Meredith’s parents, Christine and Mark Conacher; his brother-in-law, Ryan Conacher; his sister-inlaw, Elizabeth (Conacher) Barnes; his nieces and nephew; and the extended Selwood and Murdison families.

Ryan had a distinguished and multi-decade career in the financial services industry and made an indelible impact on his colleagues and the organizations he served. After dedicating fifteen years to the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board as Head of Direct Private Equity in Toronto and London, Ryan joined The Carlyle Group in New York as Chief Development Officer. In March 2023, he ascended to the role of Chief Investment Officer at Bregal Investments. Throughout his career, Ryan was a leader, mentor, strategic thinker, skilled allocator, trusted colleague, and friend.

The son of a Toronto Maple Leafs alumnus, Ryan was a lifelong Leafs fan, but possessed a passion for hockey that transcended fandom and manifested in his favorite role: “hockey dad.” Ryan loved watching his sons on the ice and was known for his proud sideline cheering.

Ryan’s family will be forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support from their extensive network of friends in Toronto and around the world, along with the new community of friends they found in Greenwich, Connecticut, especially at Brunswick School and the Greenwich Skating Club.

On April 11, 2024, Ryan was cremated in Cascais, Portugal, following an intimate and private ceremony. A memorial service will be held on the 4th of May 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut.
