Bruce Beginnings
A program for children ages 2.5 to 5 with an adult on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive. Explore the museum collections and exhibitions through picture books and hands-on activities. Topics change weekly. This program takes place on the museum’s free admission day and space is limited. Old Greenwich Farmers Market
The Old Greenwich Farmers Market is held from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays in the parking lot of the Living Hope Community Church (formerly the Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich) at 38 West End Avenue in Old Greenwich. The market offers Connecticut-grown, farmfresh products. Rain or shine.
Speakers at Retired Men’s Association
The Greenwich Retired Men’s Association offers a free program every Wednesday that is open to the public; no reservations are required. Social break starts at 10:40 a.m., followed by speaker at 11 a.m. Held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1 W. Putnam Ave., Greenwich. Playing Bridge for fun
Card fans are invited to join The Perfectly Polite Bridge Group at the YMCA every Wednesday, restarting on Aug. 22. The goal is to have fun and to create an atmosphere of good sportsmanship and goodwill. Players who want to improve their game and players who haven’t played for a while are welcome. The 10 a.m. to noon session/game focuses on conventions and play of the cards for Advanced beginners and semi-intermediate players. From noon to 1 to 3 p.m., the session/game focuses on beginners, but all are welcome. From 3:15 to 4:30 p.m., it will be Topic Bridge-Conventions Plus, with every hand played in a convention. Outdoor concert
Local rock-and-rollers Billy and The Showmen’s Rhythm and Blues Revue will be performing in a free concert at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich on Wednesday from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m.
Try Tai Chi
Summer is a great time to start Tai Chi lessons. Classes are held at 8 a.m. Wednesdays and at 9 a.m. Thursdays in the auditorium at the First Congregational Church Auditorium on Sound Beach Avenue in in Old Greenwich, opposite Binney Park. The cost is $10 per one-hour session. Newcomers welcome. This relaxing exercise can loosen joints, improve balance, and teach graceful movements to music. Fun and no pressure. Wine and cheese moonlit walk
Join Greenwich Audubon for a special evening among friends, drinks and timber rafters over 100 years old in the newly renovated Asnes Barn. Attendees can enjoy drinks, food and conversation in the setting of its beautiful, historic barn from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23. Afterward, participants will go on a guided walk on the Audubon trails to take in the sights and sounds of a moonlit summer evening. Listen for hooting owls, flying squirrels, tree frogs, katydids, crickets and other creatures of the night at Audubon’s center at 613 Riversville Road. Ages 21 and up. Seaside Center fun
The Bruce Museum’s Seaside Center, an environmental and cultural facility located in the Innis Arden Cottage at Greenwich Point, is open for the season. Visitors are encouraged to drop-in and explore the local shore and marine life from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Activities may include guided nature walks; marine organism anatomy dissections; plankton viewing with microscopes; arts and crafts; and more. Island party
The Town of Greenwich, along with the Friends of Island Beach, will host a ceremony at Island Beach on Saturday, Aug. 25, to celebrate its 100th anniversary. All are invited to join local and state dignitaries at the event, which takes place at 1 p.m.
Pig Roast in the park
The Greenwich Wine Society will hold a Pig Roast at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the gazebo in Byram Park. Enjoy the view of Long Island Sound along with the catered meal, which will feature barbecued chicken and roasted pig paired with sangria and a variety of wines, along with a variety of side dishes. Farmers Market time
A Farmers Market is held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday in the Horseneck commuter parking lot at Arch Street off Exit 3 of Interstate 95. All produce and products sold at the market are grown and prepared by the farmers themselves — or fished locally. The Greenwich Farmers Market has been in operation for more than 20 years. It will continue into November.
Summer farm stand
The Farm Stand at Versailles Farms is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, offering its wholesome fresh produce. The farm is a market garden using French intensive methods, growing for flavor, nutrition and good digestion. It is located at 56 Locust Road in backcountry Greenwich.
