BULLETIN BOARD
As a kickoff to the new school year, Greenwich Girl Scouts will host a Camporee at Camp Seton Scout Reservation in Greenwich on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 12:45 to 4:30 p.m., including an optional sleepover with breakfast. This year’s theme is “Girls Go Outdoors” to encourage girls to learn about and enjoy the great outdoors. Current, future and past Greenwich Girl Scouts of all ages and their families are welcome to join with a parent or with a troop for $10 per child (adults are no cost). To camp overnight under the stars, the cost is $25 per troop and $5 per person for breakfast; must be a registered Girl Scout. Mail-in registration ends Aug. 30. No walk-ins. No refunds. “Organizing the Greenwich Girl Scout Camporee is hard work, but working with my fellow leaders and seeing more than 250 girls build leadership skills and enjoy the outdoors with their families is so rewarding. I wish all Greenwich girls can experience the power of Girl Scouting,” said Georgianna Lissauer of Cos Cob, a troop leader for three years and Greenwich Girl Scouts Service Unit Camporee co-chair. Activities are planned from 1 to 4 p.m., with individual troop events in the evening for those camping overnight. The Camporee will begin with a flag ceremony, followed by fire building, letterboxing, crafts, outdoor cooking, fishing, a bouldering wall, archery and s’mores. The day will conclude with a flag ceremony, singalong, SWAPS and a campfire. For troops staying overnight, camp setup begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by individually planned dinners at each campsite. In the evening, there will be stargazing. In the morning, a hot pancake breakfast will be served before checkout. “Being at the Girl Scout Camporee with my friends was an unforgettable experience. We had a great time doing the outdoor activities and having the chance to camp out overnight was fantastic. I can’t wait to do it again this year,” said Arden Rodriguez, 11, a Greenwich Girl Scout for five years.
