Top CIAC golfers to watch this season

BOYS

Alex Aurora, Hamden, Sr: 2017 Division I medalist, posted 72 in last year’s event.

Max Bos, Tolland, So.: Fired a 73 to tie for second at last year’s Division III championsh­ip meet.

John Bosworth, Simsbury, So.: A 74 at the Division I meet makes this underclass­man a force to be reckoned with.

Kenny D’Attilio, East Catholic, Jr.: Top returnee for the Eagles this season.

Sean Dowd, Granby, So.: One of many impressive freshmen on the state scene last year, tying for fourth in Division III.

Matt Doyle, Hand, So: Tied for second in Division II meet last season to help the Tigers place third. Finalist in the State Junior Amateur last summer. Chris Fosdick, Xavier, Sr: Two-time Register Area MVP was inaugural State Open medalist. Will play at Florida Southern next season.

Jackson Fretty, Greenwich, Sr.: Returning Division I and FCIAC medalist will play at Princeton next season.

Oliver Frossell, Ridgefield, Sr.: Tied for second behind Fretty at last year’s FCIAC meet.

Jared Goldstein, Westhill, Sr.: Another strong golfer in the state’s top conference, the FCIAC.

Alex Gu, Darien, Sr.: Tied for third in Division I and tied for 10th at the State Open a year ago.

Cole Hahn, Avon, So.: Shot 72 to tie for second in last year’s Division II meet.

Michael Hanratty, Avon, Jr.: Returning Division II medalist helped Avon win the team title as well.

Jon Ledda, Torrington, Sr.: Last year’s Naugatuck Valley League medalist is back to do more great things for the Red Raiders.

Jacob Lindsay, Berlin, So.: Top returnee for the Redcoats joined Hahn at 72 in Division II.

Kevin Lynch, Xavier, Sr.: One-two punch with Fosdick makes Falcons favorite to repeat in SCC.

Will Mallek, Fairfield Prep, Sr.: Co-medalist with Fosdick in the SCC meet last season.

Justin Mathew, Northwest Catholic, Sr.: Tied for second in last season’s Division III championsh­ip meet and reached the semifinals of the state Junior Amateur.

Kevin Morris, Hamden, Jr: Register All-Area selection last year will try and challenge Aurora for the top spot for the Green Dragons.

William Nail, Greenwich, Sr.: Not a better returning trio than what Greenwich has back in 2019.

Ben Ropiak, Greenwich, Sr.: Part of a senior-laden group looking to repeat as FCIAC and Division I state champions.

Kyle St. Pierre, Shelton, So.: Qualified for the Connecticu­t Open last summer.

Calvin Smith, Darien, Jr: Tied for fifth at the State Open last year for the Blue Wave.

Jack Woods, Immaculate, Sr.: Looking to repeat as the SWC medalist.

Tyler Woodward, Coginchaug, Sr: Shoreline Conference’s top returning golfer fired a 67 to be medalist at last season’s Division III championsh­ip meet.

GIRLS

Leah Ayers, Wethersfie­ld, Jr.: Tied for 13th place in last June’s CIAC championsh­ip meet.

Julie Bazata, New Canaan, So.: Had an impressive freshman year, now wants to do even more for the defending FCIAC champions.

Mia Gramesty, Fairfield Warde, Jr.: Helped Warde finish second in the state meet.

Mia Grzywinski, Farmington, Sr.: Hopes to give the FCIAC contingent a run for its money during this year’s postseason.

Morgan Hibbert, New Canaan, Sr.: The State Open medalist is back for another season.

Emily McKenna, Wethersfie­ld, Sr.: Will team with Ayers to make a deadly 1-2 combinatio­n for Wethersfie­ld. McKenna tied with Ayers in the CIAC meet to help her team place third.

Sydney Nethercott, Greenwich, Jr: Posted a 75 at the CIAC state tournament meet held at Tashua Knolls GC.

Jessica Nuzzaci, Fairfield Warde, Sr.: Posted a 78 in last season’s CIAC state tournament.

Caroline Petchark, Waterford, Sr.: Posted an 88 at last year’s inaugural State Open.
