GA tennis sweeps King School
The Greenwich Academy tennis team kept its perfect season going by registering a convincing 7-0 victory over King School at Sound Shore Indoor Tennis Center in Port Chester, N.Y., on Thursday.
Georgia Ryan continued her fine season at the No. 1 singles sport for GA, posting a 6-0, 6-2 win against Olivia Boeckman. At second singles, Emma Carney was a 6-0, 6-1 winner against King’s Alexa Vassilliou. Third singles saw Maddie Smith emerge victorious for GA, 6-1, 6-3. Lily Martucci posted another win at fourth singles for the Gators, notching a 6-0, 6-1 win.
In doubles play, Annabelle Thrasher/ Andrea Jemiolo won their match at the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-2. Katie Miele and Lauren Wakeman teamed up for a 6-1, 6-1 triump at No. 2, while Antonia Packard/Chloe Burraway were in top form in taking a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the third doubles spot.
BRUNSWICK BASEBALL
Scoring runs in five of seven innings, Brunswick School cruised to a 9-0 road win over Greens Farms Academy in an FAA game held on Wednesday. The Bruins improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in FAA play.
An RBI single by Jack Griffin and a run-scoring triple from Leo Socci gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Jack Hyde padded Brunswicks lead in the third inning with a two-run single. Hyde scored later in the inning on a Luke Fisher groundout, giving the Bruins a 5-0 advantage.
Following an RBI groundout by Griffin in the fourth inning, the Bruins added two more runs in the top of the fifth. Marc McGuire hit an RBI single and Josh Feldman drove in a run with a double, making it 8-0.
A run-scoring sacrifice fly off the bat of Hyde in the sixth inning capped the scoring.
Socci (2-0) picked up the win, pitching five scoreless innings, while striking out 11 batters and allowing five hits. Joseph Henry pitched the final two innings in relief, registering four strikeouts.
SACRED HEART LACROSSE
At their home field, or on the road, Sacred Heart Greenwich has flourished any place it has played so far this spring.
Wednesday, the Tigers traveled to Choate Rosemary Hall and continued to excel.
Getting goals from numerous sources, Sacred Heart registered a 17-3 victory against Choate Rosemary Hall, upping is mark to 7-0.
Amelia Sheehan tallied four goals, three assists and three ground balls to power the Tigers. Katie Keller had three goals and two assists, while Ryan Smith had a hat trick with one assist in the win.
“It was a total team effort,” Sacred Heart coach Tara Clough said. “Our team was relentless in their efforts to fight for every possession until the last whistle.”
Fiona Lewis tallied three times, while Lily DeConcini added one goal and one assist. Also chipping in offensively were Caroline Paul (one goal, one assist), Morgan Smith (one goal) and Athena Corroon (one goal). Rachel Keefe made four saves and Mia Cesare scooped up three ground balls for the Tigers.
“Hilary Hoover and Athena Corroon led the defensive effort and we moved the ball well on transition and maintained our composure offensively,” Clough said. “It was all about grit and grace.”
