Greenwich Time

What synergies exist between China, Greenwich’s real estate markets?

- Leslie McElwreath

Chinese buyers have long been attracted to Greenwich as the ideal community to establish a United States home base.

The No. 1 attraction is the access to superior education — both at the secondary and collegiate level. Greenwich has top-notch public and private schools, and it is also conveniently located to the premier boarding schools in the

nation.

An Ivy League education is the dream of the Chinese student, and Greenwich is within driving distance of these illustrious schools, as well as other nationally ranked colleges and universities. Chinese buyers are purchasing homes in Greenwich to be close to their children attending schools in the area.

Safety is a second criteria for Chinese buyers. Greenwich is consistently ranked as one of the safest communities in the country to raise children. Chinese buyers see safety as a high priority, since their children are often here without their parents for long periods of time.

The third criteria? Access to New York City’s resources. With three major airports in the area, getting to Greenwich from China is convenient, and this is of paramount importance. Proximity to New York City, where there is access to authentic Chinese cuisine, Chinese culture and friends makes for a comfortable transition from life in China.
