Greenwich golfers top Fairfield Warde

The Greenwich High School golf team topped FCIAC foe Fairfield Warde, 165-172, on Monday at The Stanwich Club.

Senior Ben Ropiak shot a 37, while senior Billy Nail and junior Tyler Sudell each carded a 40 for the Cardinals.

Senior Christophe­r Dunn shot a 48 for Greenwich, which also defeated New Canaan, 150-160, this past Thursday. Senior Jackson Fretty shot a 36, while Nail carded a 37 to pace the Cardinals. Freshman Tyler Donnellan also shot a 37 for Greenwich, which received a round of 40 from Ropiak.

BRUNSWICK SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD

The Bruins placed seventh out of 13 teams at the NEPSTA Division II Championsh­ips held at Williston-Northampto­n School on Saturday. Belmont Hill School and Thayer Academy shared the team title with 85 points, followed by Suffield Academy (67), Berkshire School (52) and Tabor Academy (44). Williston-Northampto­n was sixth (43), followed by Brunswick.

Harry Barringer placed second in the javelin event for the Bruins. He tossed the javelin in school-record distance (157-8). In the 200meter finals, Barringer finished third with a time of 23.21 seconds. He also was fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.68 seconds).

George Varvel was third in the long jump (20-10.5) and had a sixth-place finish in the triple jump (40-5.5 for the Bruins. Jack Michalik finished fourth in the 400meter event in a schoolreco­rd time of 52.24 and Jack Withstandl­ey was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (43.11). Both were Brunswick school-record times. Nadji Ngbokoli posted a sixth-place finish for the Bruins in the 200-meter dash (23.60).
