The future residents of this 1900era colonial — 10 Golf Club Road in Greenwich — mustn’t be scratch golfers to enjoy the country-club setting of this five-bedroom, 3,358square-foot home, situated down a private road and overlooking the course at Greenwich Country Club. Jeffrey Marvin and Ellen Mosher of Houlihan Lawrence’s Greenwich office have co-listed the property. The asking is $3.095 million.

It was once the home of Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Tom Seaver.

A Greenwich-based Realtor with Houlihan Lawrence, Marvin encounters many grand homes. Asked what makes this one special, Marvin opined, “Aside from the Old World elegance of this Turn of the Century-style architecture, with the flared eaves that I love, the wraparound veranda is magical. It’s the perfect spot for morning coffee or evening drinks. As for the interior, I love the three-exposure views that the living room offers. [It is] every golfer’s dream to view his or her course from most of the windows of their residence.”

Marvin’s clients acquired the home from Seaver in 1976. They had school-aged children at the time, and recalled how the proximity to North Street School appealed to them. From the house, the children could walk to school. At the time, the home needed some “TLC,” and they weren’t immediately convinced that it was right for them. “But I went home and I kept visualizing myself on the wrapround porch,” the seller recalled.

It didn’t take them long to choose the property, because “the attractiveness of the setting and its accessibility to town” sealed the deal, the owner said.

They made some improvements to the property over the years, including some architectural and decorative updates. They changed the orientation of the original entryway, and the owner’s father — an artist — hand-stenciled some of the

hardwood flooring.

“I think the architect had some fun with this house,” the seller said, pointing out how each side of the house has its own characteristic “face.”

The interiors span more than 3,500 square feet of living space, with a three-exposure living and dining room that opens out to the wraparound porch; an eat-in kitchen; sunroom; and a family room with a vaulted ceiling.

It is a home for entertaining, the sellers affirmed, recalling a special milestone birthday party held here, with cocktails and music on the lawn and a sit-down dinner inside

for a large number of guests.

“The glory of Greenwich is backcountry, the seashore and all the different areas in between — the variety,” the seller said. “But this particular location is special, because it’s accessible to so many things, including New York. You won’t find better neighbors, and the yard is so comfortable, open and of course, right on the grounds of Greenwich Country Club. People here smile and wave.”

The property also comes with opportunity.

“The home is nicely situated on the lot, so there is a wonderful opportunity for any type of expansion, while still retaining the sweeping lawns. As the property is oversized for the zone, a buyer could expand the structure by approximately 4,000 square feet, pending town approval,” Jeffrey Marvin explained.

The lot itself spans 1.28 acres that Marvin described as “expansive, enchanting, lush.” The location is compelling, too. “This is such a unique piece of property that is close to town but offers privacy, tranquility and an unmatched 180degree view of Greenwich Country Club’s golf course. Being around the corner from North Street School and Greenwich Country Day is an added bonus,” Marvin concluded.
