Man accused of shooting at officers

STAMFORD — A Bridgeport man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting at officers Tuesday afternoon during an attempted drug bust.

Lawrence Linwood Moore, 30, of Bridgeport, allegedly fired “several shots” at officers, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin. No officers were injured by the gunshots.

Conklin said Moore, who was under investigation by Stamford Police Department’s narcotics division, was sitting in the driver’s seat of a Toyota sedan belonging to Matthew Gregory Sholomicky, 30, who was in the passenger seat.

Moore and Sholomicky had arranged a drug deal at around 3 p.m. in a Seaton Road parking lot attached to a residential complex, but were unaware they had actually agreed to meet with undercover police officers.

After the officers parked their cars nosetonose with Sholomicky’s vehicle, they hopped out and rushed toward the car. That’s when Moore allegedly shot through the driver’s side window at officers from a close distance, and continued to fire at police after the window shattered. One of the bullets was later found lodged in a nearby car.

Once Moore was out of bullets, he laid down low in the car seat and crawled to the back of the car.

One officer suffered minor injuries while attempting to take cover from the gunfire, Conklin said.

Moore was charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a weapon, illegal sale of narcotics, and two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime, among other charges. He was held on $1.05 million bond.

Sholomicky was charged with illegal sale of narcotics, two counts conspiracy to commit a crime, and possession of drugs. He was held on $50,000 bond.
