Former dealership employee charged with stealing car

STAMFORD — A Norwalk man and former Greenwich Honda employee was charged with stealing a car and selling it to a Port Chester, N.Y., man without a title for a muchreduced cash price.

Akeem Ali, 24, was charged with seconddegree larceny and held in lieu of a $75,000 courtappearance bond.

According to his threepage arrest affidavit, in November, police were contacted by a Honda of Greenwich sales manager who said a 2015 Honda Civic went missing after being parked in their Stamford storage facility on Atlantic Street.

In April, Stamford police were told that the car was recovered in Tarrytown, N.Y., after it turned up during an investigation there.

Just before police were going to tow the car, a man went up to police and said he purchased the car for cash from a man named Akeem. The man said he found the car, appraised at $13,000, priced for a quick sale on Facebook Marketplace for $5,000.

The Tarrytown man said he met the seller in Port Chester and quickly realized that the car had no title so a deal was struck to sell the car for $3,000 cash, the affidavit said. The seller removed a dealer plate from the vehicle and walked away after taking the money, the man told police.

The Tarrytown man took a picture of the seller’s license, which turned out to match Ali’s license, the affidavit said.

The affidavit said Ali is currently wanted for stealing a 2017 Lexus from Lexus of Westport, where he was an employee. The affidavit also said Ali was employed by Honda of Greenwich as a “porter” and responsible for delivering cars to and from the dealership to various storage facilities when the car was stolen. Honda of Greenwich said Ali had been assigned a dealer plate and had access to the vehicles before he quit.
