Prostate cancer screening

Greenwich Hospital offers its annual free prostate screening. Part 1 involves a blood draw from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Outpatient Laboratory, first floor, Greenwich Hospital. Part II involves a physical exam and PSA result counseling by Greenwich Hospital urologists from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Ambulatory Surgery Unit, second floor, Greenwich Hospital. Try Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a relaxing exercise that can loosen joints, improve balance and teach graceful movements to music. Fun and no pressure classes are held at 9 a.m. Thursdays in the auditorium at the First Congregati­onal Church Auditorium on Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich, opposite Binney Park. Animal sanctuary fundraiser

The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation will host a golf invitation­al at the Stanwich Club of Greenwich to raise funds for an animal sanctuary in Newtown on Thursday. Former Greenwich resident Laura DeMarkey King, whose husband Richard King is executive chef at the Stanwich Club, began the foundation to help build an animal sanctuary in Newtown in memory of 6-year-old Catherine Violet Hubbard, who lost her life at Sandy Hook Elementary. The event will feature a day of golf and lunch, with an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and dining stations. Parsonage fundraiser

Shoppers at J. McLaughlin at 55 E. Putnam Ave. can make their purchases count for a little bit more. Through Thursday, shoppers can mention “Parsonage Cottage” when they are at the counter to pay. Then, 15 percent of the proceeds will go to the senior living facility. There will also be a special “Sip and Shop” event Sept. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m., with music from DJ April Larken, shopping and drinks. Bruce Beginnings Jr.

This program at the Bruce Museum provides a welcoming and engaging museum experience for toddlers, ages 10 to 24 months, and their caregivers through hands-on play and exploratio­n. Bruce Beginnings Jr. sessions are inspired by the museum’s collection­s and exhibits. It is held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month, next time on Sept. 12.Space is limited. Farm to Table Dinner

Chef Geoff Lazlo brings his “Farm to Table Dinner” series to his hometown of Greenwich at the Greenwich Botanical Center, 130 Bible St., Cos Cob. The elegant four-course dinner kicks off with a signature cocktail and passed hors d’oeuvres as guests are treated to highlights of the property’s magnificen­t history, followed by a seated dinner featuring key ingredient­s of herbs and vegetables locally grown. Comedy night

Friends of Greenwich Point will hold its first-ever Greenwich Point Comedy Night on Friday at the Clambake area at Greenwich Point. Profession­al comedians have been booked for the event, and attendees can bring their own food and drinks. Money raised will benefit the Friends of Greenwich Point’s ongoing efforts with conservati­on, education and recreation at Greenwich Point. Dinner will be at 6 p.m., with the comedy show at 7:30 p.m. and lasting until 9, when there will then be dancing to music provided by a DJ. Qigong at the GBC

Qigong expert Donna Bunte teaches classes at 10 a.m. Fridays at the Greenwich Botanical Center, 130 Bible St., Cos Cob. With roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy and martial arts, qigong is viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance qi (chi), translated as “life energy.” Qigong practice involves moving meditation, coordinati­ng slow flowing movement, deep rhythmic breathing, and a calm meditative state of mind. Book sale

The Friends of the Cos Cob Library will hold its Annual Cos Cob Library Open House and Children’s Book Sale from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds from the sale will go toward library programs for children, tweens and teens.

Classes at Greenwich Art Society

The Greenwich Art Society offers a variety of classes for all skill levels in the mediums of painting, drawing, watercolor­s, mixed media and more. Registrati­on for the upcoming fall semester is open. Classes begin Friday. Classes are held at the third floor studio in the Senior/ Arts Building at 299 Greenwich Ave. Beginner to advanced level classes are offered. Dancing Stars

The second annual Dancing Stars of Greenwich charity dance-off Gala for Abilis will be held with the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Greenwich on Saturday at the Tamarack Country Club. Tickets are $270 per person and can be reserved at dancingsta­rsofgreenw­ich.net. This event features local celebritie­s and community leaders performing a dance routine, mirroring the hit TV show. Dancing pairs can be sponsored by donations to Abilis, with the top fundraisin­g team awarded the “People’s Choice Award.” A panel of celebrity judges decides who will win the coveted mirror ball trophy. Guests will enjoy an evening of live entertainm­ent, music, dancing, a champagne reception, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. Celebrity judges include: actor Brendan Fraser, television personalit­y and host Lara Spencer, and Tony Dovolani, season 15 champion on “Dancing with the Stars All-Star Season.” Dancers include Stephanie Webster, Elaine Madonna, Melissa ZoldanLeit­e, Dr. Bina Park, Alonso Martinez, Dana Cifone, Dr. Stacy Zarakiotis-Alexandrou, Linda Colucci, Billy Blanks Jr., Lillian Sibrizzi, and Afton Fraser.
