Couple gives $14M to Greenwich Hospital

- By Tatiana Flowers

GREENWICH — A “landmark” gift of $14 million from a local couple is the largest-ever philanthropic gift in Greenwich Hospital’s history.

Longtime Greenwich residents Lynne and Richard Pasculano made the monetary gift, which will be used to establish the Pasculano Radiation Oncology Center at the Smilow Cancer Care Center, Greenwich Hospital announced Tuesday.

“We felt this was a wonderful opportunity to make a major commitment to our community,” Lynne and

Richard Pasculano said in a statement.

“Having lived in Greenwich since 1974, we have seen Greenwich Hospital evolve as an important provider of health service to the town as well as surrounding areas,” the Pasculanos said. “We are confident that these funds are in very good hands and will be used in the most efficient manner possible. This really was a ‘no-brainer’ for us.”

The money will support construction of the Smilow Cancer Care Center pavilion and adjacent Healing Garden. In partnership with Yale School of Medicine and Yale Cancer Center, patients there will have local access to advanced oncological academic research, technologies and clinical care. Services will include medical and surgical oncology, radiation oncology and infusion bays. Access to the specially designed Healing Garden will offer patients and their families an oasis of calm and comfort, hospital leaders said.

“Lynne and Richard Pasculano’s extraordinary philanthropy is truly historic and will help to transform Greenwich Hospital into the region’s premier destination for oncological care,” said Diane Kelly, Greenwich Hospital president.

“Their support endorses our clinical growth efforts and establishes an enduring legacy, serving as inspiration to our entire community and marking a brilliant inauguration to our campaign efforts for Smilow in Greenwich,” she said.

The Lynne and Richard Pasculano gift marks the launch of Greenwich Hospital’s campaign for the construction of the Smilow Cancer Care Center Greenwich Hospital. The hospital expects to break ground on the new building in 2022 and have it operational in three years.

The gift is the single largest philanthropic gift in Greenwich Hospital’s history, hospital leaders said, and it represents the latest milestone as the hospital unfurls a multidisciplinary clinical growth plan and expansion of services in the region.

The clinical growth plan, initiated by the leadership of CEO Norman Roth — who will retire at the end of this month — dramatically enhances specialty and subspecialty care in pediatrics, heart and vascular, neuroscience and oncology at Greenwich Hospital, according to hospital leaders.

Patient-centered care remains a guiding principle at Greenwich Hospital, a 206-bed regional medical center, is a member of Yale New Haven Health, hospital leaders said.

This distinctive hallmark will usher in a new standard of cancer care and treatment within Smilow Cancer Care Center Greenwich Hospital.
