Meskers sets example

- Mike Warner, Greenwich

For voters in the upcoming state elections, the decision about who to vote for is relatively simple. Since most of us don’t follow the policy details before the legislature in Hartford, all we really want, and need is someone representing us who’s paying attention to events in Hartford, who’s judgment we can trust, and who is smart enough and experienced enough to make an impact on our behalf on the key issues important to us in Greenwich.

Steve Meskers is a good example of how we want to be represented; he’s running for reelection in the 150th District for State House Representative. Steve doesn’t believe in sending constituents self-promoting emails about every debate in Hartford, unless there’s an issue important to us. But when something of real consequence to us is about to occur, we learn Steve was already, “all over it.” Take for example, when the state suddenly wanted to permit commercial barges to anchor off the Stamford lighthouse (and Greenwich Point), Even before we citizens knew there was a problem, Steve was already focused like a laser on the details of the permit process, the key actors to be contacted and then fought to get those pending barge permits terminated.

The same was true when he found abuse by third party energy suppliers, (an alternative to Eversource), when their marketing practices were costing customers millions. He advocated to end their role in the energy assistance market. Also, he supported an effort to reduce the tax on boat sales in Connecticut, which made our state more competitive and stimulated the market for the whole boating ecosystem increasing economic activity for boating maintenance, storage, renovation industries and the like.

If you’re like me, you won’t be voting for one party or another this November, or someone who espouses a particular political doctrine, you’ll just want someone who’s smart, experienced and demonstrated that they can get things done on our behalf. That’s why I’ll vote for Steve Meskers in November.
