Huskies by the numbers
Ahead of the 2020-21 season opener, let’s look at some of the numbers that define the UConn women’s basketball team.
6— Freshmen on this season’s roster, the most since 1988-89. Three of the newcomers were ranked Top 100 in their class by ESPN: No. 1 Paige Bueckers, No. 23 Aaliyah Edwards, No. 25 Mir McLean.
7— Wins Geno Auriemma needs to match Tennessee legend Pat Summitt for most all-time (1,098). That’s, of course, assuming Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer (1,094) doesn’t catch Summitt first.
11 — National championship victories, tied with the UCLA men for most all-time in college basketball. UConn’s most recent title was in 2015-16, the last of four straight.
14.6 — Last season’s scoring average for guard Christyn Williams, the highest among returning players.
27 — Consecutive 25-win seasons. The Huskies would’ve also hit the 30win mark for a 15th consecutive year in 2019-20, if not for the NCAA Tournament being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
37 — Combined Big East regular season and tournament titles between 1989 and 2012.
64 — Games played in college by Tennessee transfer Evina Westbrook. That’s most on the team, ahead of fellow juniors Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Williams (59).
154 — Career blocks for Nelson-Ododa, who needs just eight more to tie Peggy Walsh for 10th in program history.
2006-07 — The last season before this one that UConn didn’t have a senior on its roster.
2,834 — Days between UConn’s last regular season Big East game (96-87 tripleovertime loss to Notre Dame on March 4, 2013) and its next (Dec. 6 at Seton Hall).
