Cops: Stamford man faces murder charge in shooting

- By Tara O'Neill

STAMFORD — A man previously charged in connection with an April shooting now faces a murder charge in the case, police officials confirmed Thursday.

On April 18, Courtney Lewis, a 19-year-old standout local football player who graduated last year, was killed in a shooting in the parking lot of the RPM Raceway on West Avenue during a car meet-up.

Everett Brown, a 21-year-old Stamford resident, was arrested days later on charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm, firstdegree reckless endangerment, carrying a pistol without a permit, risk of injury and carrying a dangerous weapon. Prosecutors at the time said a murder charge was imminent.

On Thursday, Capt. Richard Conklin said the warrant was completed by investigators and revised by the prosecutor, charging Brown with murder and two counts of assault. He said the teamwork helped bring the additional charges.

The assault charges stem from the injuries suffered by the 17-year-old and a 33-year-old who were also hit by bullets in the shooting, police said. The gunfire rang out during an argument, police said.

State Judicial Branch court records were not immediately updated for Brown Thursday afternoon, but the records on his prior charges indicate he’s scheduled in court to enter pleas on the offenses on June 1.
