WHAT TO LOOK FOR
Greenwich and Ludlowe went to five sets on Sept. 30 with the Cardinals winning 3-2… The Cardinals have won eight straight matches and have dropped just two sets, both to Darien, during that stretch… Greenwich features 6-foot-4 middle Liana
Sarkissian, the MVP of the FCIAC final, and outside hitter Adele Sotgiu, both seniors… Junior setter Lucia Spanjol has been key in setting up the Cardinals’ many weapons… Ludlowe has won eight of its last nine matches… The No. 12 Falcons defeated higher-seeded teams in the last three matches, beating No. 5 Naugatuck, No. 4 Conard and No. 1 Cheshire to reach the final... Senior Gabby Price runs Ludlowe’s offensive engine as setter… Senior Jane Ransome and junior Tatum Holdereid lead the Falcons in kills.
YOU SHOULD KNOW
This is the third time the two FCIAC teams are meeting in the Class LL championship… Greenwich defeated Ludlowe in five sets in 2010, and Ludlowe won in a sweep in 2015… The 2015 title is the Falcons’ only state championship… Greenwich last appeared in the final in 2017 when it defeated Amity in four sets… This is the fourth time since 2015 that two FCIAC teams will play for the Class LL title... In 2019, Trumbull shut out Westhill 3-0 in the final… A Greenwich win would make it the fifth FCIAC team since 2014 to win both the conference and state titles, joining Darien (2014), Ludlowe (2015), Stamford (2016) and Greenwich (2017).
