Bruce Beginnings
Children ages 2 to 5 and their caregivers are invited to explore the Bruce Museum’s collections and exhibitions through picture books and hands-on activities at Bruce Beginnings on Tuesdays. There are two sessions: 10 to 10:45 a.m. and 11 to 11:45 a.m. Topics rotate between art and science. This program is free with admission, but space is limited. Blood donations
The American Red Cross is seeking donors who will help replenish the blood supply. Locally and regionally, there is a one-day supply — much less than the typical five-day supply. Here are the dates and times of upcoming blood drives in the area: from 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Feb. 8, Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 at the Greenwich Blood Donation Center at 99 Indian Field Road; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Belle Haven Club at 100 Harbor Drive; and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Trinity Church at 5 River Road, Cos Cob. Petite Concert
There will be an in-person Petite Concert from 11 to 11:30 Tuesday at Greenwich Library in the Marx Family Black Box Theater. Petite Concerts are 30-minute live concerts for the youngest of listeners. From newborns to preschoolers, these concerts are informal and interactive and contain well-known musical selections. Food donations
The Parish of St. Catherine of Siena and St. Agnes accepts food pantry donations for Neighbor to Neighbor from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays in its parking area at 4 Riverside Ave. Items needed include peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, canned meat, tuna, canned fruit, dried or canned beans, cereal, rice and soup as well as household cleaners and toiletries. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 200 Riverside Ave. accepts donations from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.
Museum tour
The Bruce Museum offers an Exhibitions Highlights Tour from 2 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays. A trained guide will lead a discussion and exploration of exhibitions and objects on display at the museum. No reservations are required, but space is limited. Check-in with the front reception desk to take part. Free with museum admission, and free individual museum admission on Tuesdays. Speakers at Retired Men’s group
The Greenwich Retired Men’s Association offers a free speakers program Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Visit www.greenwichrma.org for a link to watch via Zoom. On Feb. 9, Basil Hero, former award-winning investigative reporter with NBC News, will talk about his new book “The Mission of a Lifetime: Lessons from the Men Who Went to the Moon”
Event for job-seekers
The next St. Catherine Support Circle meeting will address the topic of “How to Negotiate Salary, Compensation, and Employment Agreements.” The event for jobseekers will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday via Zoom. The presenter, Lauri London, an employment lawyer, will share practical tips on navigating salary discussions, as well as other aspects of employment offers. Attendees will learn to look for and how to understand an employment agreement before signing one. Friday Film
For Valentine’s Day, the Friends Friday Films Series honors the 50th anniversary of one of Hollywood’s greatest rom-coms. A hapless, nerdy musicologist (Ryan O’Neal) is accompanied by his bossy fiancé (Madeline Kahn in her debut role) in a quest to get a grant for his research. When a kook (Barbra Streisand) falls in love with him at first sight, it’s only one of many comical wrenches that gets thrown into his plans. Free. New Year events

Farmers Market
The Winter Farmers Market is open at Sam Bridge Nursery on Saturdays (weather permitting) from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. until May 7. The market offers a diverse group of farmers and artisan vendors offering local produce, meats, fresh seafood, breads, desserts and greens. The nursery is located at 437 North St. The Bruce Museum will offer Family Gallery Tours from 11 a.m. to noon Sundays. Want to explore the museum with your entire family? This tour takes children 5 and up, and their caregivers and/or family, through the museum’s exhibitions. Talk by Ceramics Circle
The Connecticut Ceramics Circle will present a remote lecture by Scott Shields on “Pueblo Dynasties: Master Potters from Matriarchs to Contemporaries,” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14. Shields is associate director and chief curator of the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento. Featuring pieces from the museum’s premier collection of Native American ceramics, Shields’s talk focuses on legendary matriarchs and their adventuresome descendants and artistic progeny whose art became increasingly elaborate, detailed, personal and political. Curator’s talk
A curator’s talk and gallery tour about the recently acquired painting “The Red Mill, Cos Cob” by artist Childe Hassam will take place at the Greenwich Historical Society at noon Feb. 23. The painting, acquired in 2020, will be on view in the Historical Society’s Permanent Collections Gallery beginning in February. A gallery talk on“Cos Cob’s Lower Landing Through Artists’ Eyes” will illustrate the importance of the painting and the waterfront landscape it captured. Admission is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers, and includes general admission to the museum/ galleries. Space is limited. Registration is recommended at greenwichhistory.org.
