Estate with two-story mahogany library listed for $39M

Greenwich has no shortage of grandiose estates, which range from an English manor that looks like its straight from a fairytale to a mansion that's a replica of Marie Antionette's Versailles chateau. And the home on 555 Lake Ave.is no exception.

Listed for $39 million, the Lake Avenue home sits on more than 8 acres is filled with trees for privacy and a host of amenities for outdoor living. A stone terrace features several seating spaces, along with an outdoor kitchen that is finished with a pizza oven, rotisserie and a grill, according to the listing. Adding to the outdoor space is a new 75-foot glass mosaic pool, the listing notes, as well as a pool house with a full bathroom and kitchenett­e. There's also a tennis court on the property.

The interior of the Lake Avenue home has 18,954 square feet with eight bedrooms and nine full bathrooms. The home's “reception hall” features a “threestory chandelier,” according to the listing, along with walnut parquetry floors. The reception hall leads into a formal dining room with its own fireplace and seating for 18, as well as a living room that also has its own fireplace and a custom bar. The kitchen features a large center island with barstool seating for six, as well as two butler's pantries, the listing notes.

Greenwich is one of many towns and cities in Connecticu­t to have seen its average home values increase in the past two years. Across all five of Greenwich's ZIP codes, there was an average $323,115 jump in home values between January 2020 and January 2022, or about a 24 percent increase. According to real estate website Redfin, the median sale price in Greenwich dropped by 4.4 percent in February 2022 compared to the same time last year, with the average sale price totaling $1,887,500. February 2022 also brought fewer homes to the Greenwich real estate market than in 2021, with an average of only 57 homes on the market this year compared to last year's 84.
