STAMFORD — A 34year-old Stamford mother has died after she and her 10-month-old son fell off a platform at the city's train station last week.

James Gill, the state's chief medical examiner, confirmed Monday that Jessica Perez died this weekend, days after she and her infant son were injured when the two fell from Platform 3 onto the train tracks at the Stamford train station on April 25.

Gill said officials are still working to determine the cause and manner of Perez's death.

Stamford police officials said the incident happened around 1:20 p.m. April 25 after, they said, Perez suffered a suspected medical episode, which sent her and her child off the platform.

Perez fell on her head and suffered serious injuries, according to police.

The infant, who was strapped into a stroller, sustained scrapes to his face and forehead, police said.

MTA officials declined to comment on the status of their investigation Monday.

On Sunday, family members of Perez posted a GoFundMe seeking to raise money for her two children, aged 9 and 10 months.

“Jessica was selfless, always putting others needs before her own. She was a kind and loving sister, daughter and single mother leaving behind two beautiful children a week before Mother's Day,” her brother Anthony Perez wrote on the GoFundMe. “No one was prepared for this, and we are asking for donations to help us raise and care for these two adorable children.”

Anthony Perez wrote that the donated funds will go toward “medical fees, food, clothing, and ensuring her children's best quality of life for the future.

“Even though she is no longer with us physically, her spirit remains through my beautiful nephews,” he wrote.
