SOFTBALL HIGHLIGHTS
TOP PERFORMERS
Lena Barthel, East Haven: The senior catcher went 9-for-14 on the week with two doubles, three triples and a home run. She drove in a total of 12 runs and scored seven times.
Maddy Bull, Jonathan Law: The freshman pitcher went 2-0 with wins over Amity and Foran. She struck out 17 batters over 14 innings pitched and currently has 72 strikeouts in 50 total innings with a 1.68 ERA. She also homered and tripled in the two wins.
Maddie Burrows, Waterford: Burrows shut down East Haven, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out 11 batters in the 9-1 victory. She also hit a triple in the game.
Lexi Collins, Waterford: The sophomore earned the start for Waterford in its 9-1 win over East Haven, and hit her first career home run, a grand slam, to give her team an early second-inning lead.
Brianna Greenlaw, Holy Cross: Had seven hits in three games, including a two-home run game against Nonnewaug with four RBIs, and a two-hit game against Woodland.
Samantha LaRemina, Hale Ray: The senior captain had a two-home run game against Old Saybrook with six RBIs and three runs.She also hit a double.
Grace Lurz, Cheshire: In the loss to Guilford, Lurz collected her 100th career hit in just her 58th career game.
Hadley Marchand, RHAM: Went 3-for-6 last week in two RHAM wins with seven RBIs and three runs. She homered twice against South Windsor and tripled against East Catholic. She also earned the win on the mound in both games allowing one earned run in each while striking out 16 batters over 13 innings.
Sara MacKinnon, Immaculate: The senior catcher slashed .600/.667/1.100 this week in three games. She had six hits, including a double, two triples,
four RBIs, six runs and one intentional walk.
Jacqueline Pengel, Avon: Threw a six inning perfect game with 17 strikeouts in Avon’s 12-0 win over Northwest Catholic. She also homered and doubledwith three RBIs.
Haley Pucci, Danbury: After the win over St. Joseph, Pucci led Danbury to two more wins throwing 14 innings of three-hit ball, allowing one unearned run and five walks while striking out 27. She has struck out 155 batters in 77 innings.
Audrey Quish, Immaculate: The senior shortstop slashed .545/.545/ 1.000 this week in three games. She had six hits, including a double, two triples, four RBIs, and six runs.
Kiley Regan, Seymour: The senior hit two home runs and had four RBIs in two games for Seymour last week. She now has six home runs on the season.
Alexis Resto, Shelton: Only got out once last week, going 7-for-8 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and four runs in a 1-1 week.
Ava Slavinski, Joel Barlow: Went 8-for-11 (.727) with five doubles, three RBIs and four runs in three games for Barlow.
Addy Smith, Guilford: The sophomore went 8-for-14 (.571) three home runs, 10 RBIs, two doubles and five runs in a 4-0 week for Guilford. She had a two-home run game against Mercy and hit a homer with four RBIs in a 6-5 victory over Cheshire.
GAMES TO WATCH
NFA at RHAM, Thursday, 3:45 p.m.: Two of the top teams in the state, floating outside of the Top 10, will go head-to-head. RHAM (9-2) has only lost to No. 3 Masuk and No. 9 Hall, while NFA (9-2) has only lost to No. 1 Ludlowe and No. 6 Waterford.
Oxford at Watertown, Thursday, 3:45 p.m.: While Woodland sits alone atop the NVL, Watertown and Oxford sit in second and third respectively. Watertown (11-1) has won nine in a row since losing to Woodland. Oxford lost to Woodland as well, but also has a 10-9 loss to Seymour.
Ellington at Glastonbury, Friday, 3:45 p.m.:
Like NFA at RHAM, two teams that have been receiving votes in the poll from separate conferences will get a chance to show their capabilities. Glastonbury (10-2) has only lost to No. 2 Southington and No. 9 Hall while Ellington (9-1) has only lost to No. 10 Haddam-Killingworth.
Amity at Cheshire, Friday, 4:15 p.m.:
Both Amity and Cheshire were bounced from the Top 10 this week as the second round of SCC chaos begins. In the first meeting between the two, Cheshire (8-4) defeated Amity (9-2) 14-5.
No. 2 Southington at No. 3 Masuk, Saturday, 11 a.m.:
Part of a new agreement in which No. 3 Masuk and No. 2 Southington will play each other every year, the two most dominant programs in recent history will begin a new tradition.
