Sidewalk sales

The 2022 Greenwich Sidewalk Sales along the Avenue and its side streets will continue to run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday. During this annual event, local retailers on Greenwich Avenue and connecting streets offer values on clothing, jewelry, shoes, gifts and more outside under tents. Blood donors needed

The American Red Cross says patients are counting on the generosity of blood donors, especially in July when donations drop about 20 percent. By scheduling appointmen­ts, donors can provide for those in immediate need of lifesaving care. To schedule an appointmen­t, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBl­ood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS. Also, Trinity Church at 5 River Road in Cos Cob will hold a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

Common Concerts

Free Music Fridays will be held at the Greenwich Common with live outdoor music. The concerts are free of charge and open to the public every Friday from noon to 1 p.m. The series features local artists, with different performers every week, appealing to a variety of musical tastes. Grab a sandwich or a salad, sit outdoors in the heart of Greenwich Avenue and listen to great bands.

Seaside Center opens

The Bruce Museum’s Seaside Center at the Innis Arden Cottage has reopened for the summer. The beachside environmen­tal education center is located in Greenwich Point Park. Its season runs through Sept. 5. There is no admission fee for the Seaside Center. However, from May through October both residents and nonresiden­ts need a beach pass to enter Greenwich Point Park.

Farmers Market

The Greenwich Farmers Market is held Saturdays in the commuter parking lot at Arch Street and Horseneck Lane in downtown Greenwich. The hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Nov. 19. Knowing nature

Greenwich Audubon will host “Nature in the Know” at 11 a.m. Saturday. Learn how to read nature’s many signposts — from buds and blooms to tracks and trails. Ryan MacLean, education specialist at Greenwich Audubon, will lead participan­ts in a walk the trails to discover the back story of all the natural world has to share with us. The program will also be held July 23 and July 30. The fee is $10 per adult, $5 per child. Preregistr­ation required at greenwich.audubon.org.

Tales & Trails

Join the Greenwich Audubon Center for its “Animal Tales & Trails” event, which will be held at 2 p.m. July 16, July 17, July 23, July 24, July 30 and July 31. Join us for story time at the Greenwich Audubon Center! This in-person program has a limited capacity of 15 children and takes place both indoors and outdoors. Fee is $10 per child, adults are free. Preregistr­ation required at greenwich.audubon.org.

Creating Graphic Novels

Local author Maria Scrivan will lead students in grades 4 and up in a graphic novel workshop from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Marx

Family Black Box Theater at the Greenwich Library. She’ll discuss her background as an artist and cartoonist, her process for developing the “Nat Enough” series, including “Nat Enough,” “Forget Me Nat” and her newest graphic novel, “Absolutely Nat,” and how her own childhood has inspired her stories. Concerts at the Point

The Friends of Greenwich Point will hold a Summer Concert from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on select Saturdays, with the first one on July 16. The Light Warriors will perform on this reschedule­d opening date. The band plays a unique and familiar fusion of funky rock, jazzy reggae and jam with global indie sensibilit­ies. The location of the concerts is by Founders Rock at Greenwich Point — follow the music to the field above the second concession stand. This concert location is new and is the perfect spot with plenty of space for attendees to relax, picnic, dance and explore. The concert schedule also includes Oh La La! on Aug. 20 and Pete Francis & the Dragon Crest Collective on Oct. 1.

Movies in the park

Join the Perrot Memorial Library for its popular summer program, Movies in Binney Park in Old Greenwich, from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday. The featured movie will be “Encanto” The film runs 1 hour and 42 minutes and is rated PG. Bring your picnic and chairs, and enjoy the show.

Scavenger Hunt

Join the Greenwich Historical Society in an afternoon of summer fun and adventure to explore the landmarks, people and spaces of past and present that make Greenwich the vibrant community that it is today. Explore the hidden histories of the town’s neighborho­ods in a thrilling race to uncover clues that highlight local legends and gems. Gather with friends and family on a race to track down clues and win the hunt, culminatin­g in a celebratio­n on the Greenwich Historical Society campus. Polo game

The Greenwich Polo Club has a full slate of tournament­s for the 2022 season. Play for the East Coast Gold Cup will continue on Sunday, July 17. All matches begin at 3 p.m., and club gates open to ticketed guests at 1 p.m. The polo field is located at 1 Hurlingham Drive, Greenwich. Ferry concerts

The Dixieland Jazz Band will hold its Concerts on the Sound-Island Beach Ferry on July 17 and Aug. 7. The Bendheim Western Civic Center at 449 Pemberwick Road will host outdoor summer movies again this summer. “Sing 2” will be shown on Monday and “Soul” will be shown on Monday, Aug. 1. Food donations

The Parish of St. Catherine of Siena and St. Agnes accepts food pantry donations for Neighbor to Neighbor from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays in its parking area at 4 Riverside Ave. Items needed include peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, canned meat, tuna, canned fruit, dried or canned beans, cereal, rice and soup as well as household cleaners and toiletries. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 200 Riverside Ave. accepts donations from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.

Author visit

GLT member picnic

The Greenwich Land Trust is excited for the return of its member picnic from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, with a rain date of July 21. It will be held at the GLT’s Mueller Preserve at 370 Round Hill Road and promises to be a family-friendly summer celebratio­n. Members are welcome to bring blankets or chairs, a picnic dinner, snacks, BYOB for your family, and outdoor games and activities. There will be live music, blueberry picking, Mr. Softee Ice Cream Truck, and more. This event is a perk for GLT members. Car seat safety checks

Greenwich Hospital is offering monthly car seat safety checks every third Thursday of the month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at West Putnam Medical Center, 500 W. Putnam Ave. in Greenwich. The next session will be July 21. To schedule an appointmen­t with a certified technician to learn how to correctly install a car seat and properly secure their child in the car seat, call 203-200-KIDS or email Carseats@ynhh.org. Connecticu­t law has specific standards for rear-facing car seats, forward-facing car seats and booster seats depending on the age and weight of the baby or child. Anyone who is expecting a baby is encouraged to make an appointmen­t before the baby is born. The hospital will not discharge a newborn without a safe car seat.

Outdoor concert

Enjoy an outdoor concert featuring Fairfield Counts with Michelle Grace from 7 to 8 p.m. July 21 at the Byram Shubert Library. The Fairfield Counts is a 19member orchestra that plays the best of the classic Big Band music for all occasions. It is considered one of the premier big bands on the East Coast and boasts 17 musicians, a musical director, and a superb female vocalist, Michelle Grace.

Native meadow walk

Come take a closer look at the inhabitant­s of the native meadow at the Greenwich Land Trust’s Mueller Preserve at 370 Round Hill Road. See what’s blooming, discover the different insects that are feeding on the plants, and check out the pollinator­s visiting the late summer flowers in the event from 3:30 to 5 p.m. July 26. Tavern Garden Market

The Tavern Garden Market will return to the Greenwich Historical Society at 47 Strickland Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 27. It will feature locally sourced farm-to-table organic produce, farm-fresh eggs, baked goods, flowers, gifts, fashion accessorie­s, vintage jewelry, crafts and environmen­tally sourced beauty products.
