- — David Borges

Here’s a list of Connecticut products now playing as scholarship (or key walk-on) players in Division 1 men’s basketball this season:

Donovan Clingan, Fr., Bristol, UConn: What more can be said about the 7-foot-2 center who could have a big impact on Huskies this season straight out of Bristol Central.

Desmond Claude, Fr., New Haven, Xavier: Putnam Science Academy grad already vying for starting point guard spot as frosh on talented Musketeer team.

Amir “Primo” Spears, So., Hartford, Georgetown: After leading Duquesne in scoring as a freshman, Windsor High product now playing for Patrick Ewing as third CT player in Big East.

Walter Whyte, Gr., New Haven, Boston University: St. Luke’s School product returns for a fifth season at BU, where he should be one of the top players in the Patriot League.

Jonas Harper, Gr., Stamford, Boston University: Ditto for this fellow St. Luke’s School grad, a two-time Patriot League All-Defensive Team selection.

Nevin Zink, Sr., Newtown, Boston University: That Nov. 11 game vs. UConn at Gampel will be a real homecoming, including this 6-9 forward who played sparingly last year after transfer from USC Upstate.

Tyler Thomas, R-Sr., New Haven, Hofstra: After averaging over 17 ppg past two seasons at Sacred Heart, former Amity High star playing for Pride. Literally.

Aidan Carpenter, Jr., Hamden, Sacred Heart: Here’s a switch — Pioneers actually bring in a pair of local transfers, from Siena and …

Raheem Solomon, Gr., Hartford, Sacred Heart: … from Niagara. And both Carpenter and Solomon should be highly impactful this season.

Joey Reilly, Sr., Cromwell, Sacred Heart:

Meanwhile, former East Catholic standout who transferred a year ago from Holy Cross could be Pioneers’ PG.

Joey Kasperzyk, Sr., New Haven, Niagara: Well-traveled former Hillhouse star transfers to play for ex-Dukie Greg Paulus off strong season at Southeastern Louisiana.

Nick Guadarrama, Gr., Newington, Florida International: After four years at New Hampshire, scoring in double figures the past three, 6-5 forward winds up at FIU (not to be confused with Florida Atlantic, where Jalen Gaffney now plays).

Tre Breland, Jr., Hamden, CCSU: Former Hamden Hall star took circuitous route to return home and play for Patrick Sellers’ Blue Devils as a walk-on who’ll play a lot.

TJ Holloway, Fr., Orange, CCSU: After year at Canterbury School, joins Blue Devils’ program as 6-4 guard.

Dion Perkins, Fr., Seymour, CCSU: 2021 GameTimeCT first-team selection was a 1,000point scorer at Seymour High.

Corey McKeithan, Jr., Windsor, Rider: Scored nearly 2,000 points at Windsor High before missing frosh year at Rider with torn ACL.
