Drop by the Bruce
The Bruce Museum at 1 Museum Drive is open to visitors while construction continues on its expansion project. A permanent exhibit is open on “Natural Cycles Shape Our Land,” which takes visitors on a journey through cycles that unfold over millions of years at global scales and ends with small cycles that unfold at minuscule scales in our backyards. Twachtman exhibit
An exhibit of artwork by Impressionist painter John Henry Twachtman, featuring paintings created during his years of living in town, is on display at the Greenwich Historical Society. The exhibit, titled “Life and Art,” features 18 pieces of artwork on loan from museums and private collections and runs through Jan. 22. The gallery, located at 47 Strickland Road in Cos Cob, is open noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Bruce Beginnings
The Bruce Museum’s Bruce Beginnings program for children is held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesdays. Children ages 2.5 to 5 and their caregivers explore the museum’s collections and exhibitions through picture books and hands-on activities. Topics rotate between art and science. Food donations
The Parish of St. Catherine of Siena and St. Agnes accepts food pantry donations for Neighbor to Neighbor from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays in its parking area at 4 Riverside Ave. Items needed include peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, canned meat, tuna, canned fruit, dried or canned beans, cereal, rice and soup as well as household cleaners and toiletries. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 200 Riverside Ave. accepts donations from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.
Playing bridge
Learn to play bridge at the Greenwich YMCA in two courses: Beginner Bridge from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Improve Your Bridge Game with Conventions from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Ready to play? Movie and talk
Christ Church Greenwich will host a free screening of “Summer Soul” with refreshments followed by movie talk at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Parish Hall at 254 E. Putnam Ave. In 1969, the same year as Woodstock, a huge soul music festival was taking place 100 miles away and the documentary footage from it wasn’t seen until 2021. The Harlem Cultural Festival’s “Summer of Soul,” is a powerful documentary celebrating black history, culture and

Drainage discussion
There will be a public meeting with discussion about the Pemberwick Park drainage area project at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Cone Room at Greenwich Town Hall. After the impact of Tropical Storm Ida, the town Department of Public Works began reviewing parts of town to explore ways to reduce the impacts of future storms. It was determined that the Pemberwick Park drainage area required further study.
Slimy & Scaly
Explore the world of reptiles and amphibians as The Cos Cob Library welcomes a visit with some live snakes, turtles, frogs, and lizards from the Stamford Museum & Nature Center for a “Slimy & Scaly” program from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room. Discover the differences between the two groups, learn how they grow up, and have a chance to touch many live slimy and scaly creatures.
Student art exhibit
The Greenwich Art Society Studio School is showcasing its students’ artwork in an exhibit on view through Thursday in the Greenwich Art Society gallery on the second floor of the Art Center, 299 Greenwich Ave. This energetic exhibit encompasses the diverse array of skills demonstrated by the studio school’s students in painting, graphite, collage and watercolor. The show represents both traditional and abstract styles. A wine and cheese closing party and pickup will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10.

Painting workshop
Greenwich master painter Dmitri Wright will offer a unique opportunity to enter the world of American Impressionism at a plein air painting workshop at the Greenwich Historical Society from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. In “Retracing Twachtman’s Footsteps: Painting en Plein Air in Cos Cob,” Wright will provide individualized training and feedback to enable participants to create their own paintings in the Impressionist style.
