KEEP AN EYE ON

HAWK ON THE MEND?: Jordan Hawkins, UConn’s ultra-talented sophomore wing, left Monday night’s season-opener after crashing to the floor and landing on his back and head midway through the first half. He didn’t return to the game, though afterwards, Dan Hurley said that he hadn’t been put in concussion protocol.

UConn did not reveal Hawkins’ status in the ensuing days, though on his weekly radio show Wednesday night, Hurley said that Hawkins’ status is “in the hands of the doctors,” and that he had relatively mild symptoms. Out of precaution, it would seem unlikely that Hawkins plays on Friday night.

CONNECTICUT CONNECTIONS: BU features not one, not two, but three Connecticut products in its starting lineup: New Haven’s Walter Whyte, Stamford’s Jonas Harper and Newtown’s Nevin Zink. Whyte, a 6-foot-6 swingman in his fifth season with the Terriers, poured in a career-high 27 points in BU’s season-opening, 72-63 win over Northeastern on Monday. He also tore down a game-high 13 rebounds and had two blocks and two steals.

Harper, a 6-2 grad student guard, added 15 points and four assists, while Zink, a 6-9 senior, had five points and seven rebounds

in 20 minutes.

The Terriers are also coached by Joe Jones, brother of longtime Yale head coach James Jones.
