Margaret Williams Casey (Sally), 84, died peacefully on January 16, 2023 in Needham, MA after a long journey with dementia.

She was born on May 26, 1938, to the late Ralph and Peggy (Creighton) Williams. She grew up in Boston, MA, graduating from Winsor School in 1956 and Smith College in 1960. She played on the Smith College field hockey team and majored in history.

After college, she moved to New York City and worked for the American Field Service where she oversaw foreign exchange students living in the United States. On May 1, 1965, she married Rev. Craig W. Casey, an Episcopal priest, from Memphis, TN. After serving at several parishes, they settled in Greenwich, CT where Craig commuted to NYC to work at the Episcopal Church Pension Fund. Sally and Craig raised their young family in Greenwich where Sally remained until moving back to the Boston area in 2011.

Sally was an active volunteer at Christ Church Greenwich, the Greenwich Library, Brunswick School, Greenwich Garden Center, and Greenwich Audubon. She was a board member of the Gateway School, the Brookridge Homeowners Association and Greenwich Academy where she led the search committee for a new head of school. She was particularly proud of the Sally Casey Award which is given annually to the girl recognized for her community service at Greenwich Academy.

She loved to travel, exploring many areas and cultures of the world including the Amazon, China, Southeast Asia, Africa, Australia, and many parts of the United

States. She enjoyed attending the theater, symphony, lectures, and watching her grandchildren play sports. However, what she treasured most was catching up with family and friends, especially if it was on the front porch of her boathouse in Cohasset, MA watching the tide come in.

Sally is survived by her son Alec Casey (Sarah), daughters Sarah Forbes (Charlie), Ellen Boyd (Stephen), grandchildren Hannah, Casey, Elizabeth, Phoebe, Tyler, Abbey and Bronly, her brother Ben Williams, in-laws Patrick Casey, Dennis Casey (Kavanaugh), Mary Ann Basurto and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Craig, her brothers Ralph and Bertie Williams, brother-in-law Brent Casey and her sisters-in-law Tica Williams and Judith Walters.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on March 30 at the Church of Redeemer in Chestnut Hill, MA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in her memory to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund ( curealz.org/outreach/inmemory/margaret-casey ) or the American Field Service USA ( www.afsusa.org/donate/support-afs-usa ).
