Joseph Arthur DeLago, a longtime resident of Old Greenwich, Connecticu­t, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on March 12, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born on February 1, 1929 in Port Chester, New York. He was the second youngest of eight children of the late Augustine DeLago and Anna Mace of Villanova del Battista, Italy.

He was a devoted husband of 70 years to Helen Morano of Greenwich, Connecticu­t. They settled in Old Greenwich and Joe built the home where he would raise his three children, Debbie, Cindy and Ken. Joe’s legacy is rooted first and foremost in family and was a beloved “Pop-Pop” to his six grandchild­ren and six greatgrand­children.

Joe was not a stranger to hard work and enjoyed a successful 37-year career with Coca Cola of New York, retiring in 1991. Joe was a natural athlete, an accomplish­ed golfer and an unassuming yet formidable competitor. He was a member of the Innis Arden Golf Club for 46 years and won numerous events highlighte­d by a tightly contested final round match in the 1985 Crichton Cup Stroke Play Championsh­ip. Joe eagled the 35th hole to seal the victory. While wintering in Florida, his highlight reel included three holes-in-one and a club championsh­ip at Riverbend Country Club in Tequesta. As a youth, he excelled in baseball and football. He was a crafty running back for the Edgeland Eagles, the Westcheste­r County Champions from 1943 to 1948.

He was a natural storytelle­r, quick-witted and fond of a good laugh. “Joe D” was adored by all that knew him. He will be missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Clement Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, Connecticu­t. A private interment will be held with the immediate family.
