Riverside colonial, nestled among colorful gardens
Lovely landscaping and a friendly community are the setting for this week’s Hot Property
Newly introduced to the market, by Coldwell Banker Realtor Liz Johnson, is 44 Riverside Lane in Riverside. The asking price is $1.995 million.
The colonial-style residence was built in 2006, and Johnson notes in the listing description that the property has been “beautifully maintained.” The house is situated on a 0.18acre, landscaped lot. Specimen trees and perennial gardens—with hydrangeas, peonies, dahlias, lilacs and other flowering plants— add texture and color to the yard.
Johnson introduced Greenwich Time to the homeowner, who shared some memories of the property her family’s enjoyed for nearly 18 years. The seller explained some of the improvements they made along the way, to both the house and the yard. “We added bookshelves to the living area and shelves to the mudroom and garage,” the seller said. They also added recessed lighting to the interiors, for a brighter wash of light. “And we planted over 85 trees along the perimeter, because we wanted it to be like a private oasis for us. We’ve meticulously maintained the trees.” Among the trees they’ve added are white- and pink-blooming European Horse Chestnut varieties.
They have glorious blooms in May, the seller noted. They added an irrigation system to ensure that the trees, lawn and gardens are properly hydrated.
The house provides 2,404 square feet of interior space, which the listing agent describes as “exquisite design, top-notch craftsmanship and great attention to detail.”
The first level comprises a foyer, formal living and dining rooms, a powder room and a pantry. Cherry cabinets, granite counters and appliances in stainless finishes create a warm, inviting eat-in kitchen.
The kitchen has an open plan design, spilling seamlessly into the adjoining family room—which has the added coziness of a fireplace. It opens out to a patio, surrounded by foliage for privacy, with plenty of space for seating, dining furnishing and outdoor kitchen equipment. Buyers who are avid home cooks may appreciate the current owner’s herb garden, mere steps from the kitchen.
The owners leveraged a dear friend’s design expertise to decorate the home, and they capitalized on the lighting and the wall space to display cherished works of art.
Upstairs, on the second level, there are four bedrooms, including a primary suite. One of the bedrooms sits adjacent to a full hall bath, and the other two share a Jack-n-Jill-style bath. The owner noted that one of the family bedrooms is currently used as a walkin closet, complete with California Closet organization.
This home also affords a buyer an attached one-car garage, a finished lower level, storage space and a cedar closet.
“The basement is completely finished. Someone could live there. It could be an apartment, or if you had a teenage son or daughter, their bedroom. It’s really livable,” the homeowner said, noting the flexibility
the finished lower level enables.
This Hot Property is in the Cos Cob School district. It’s close to the Riverside train station, shopping destinations, parks and Greenwich Point.
When asked about the location, the homeowner described the proximity perks: “We love the proximity to Tod’s Point and bike there often, have a picnic at the beach with friends, and walk there, as well. We have enjoyed the convenience of being close to New York City and its variety of cultural offerings, while living in a quiet neighborhood.”
She recounted block parties and neighborhood barbecues.
“We love our neighbors and look out for each other’s homes when we travel,” she continued. “Also, since we travel often, we love the availability of many airports nearby.”
