Norwalk man gets second ‘Big Brother’ chance
Connecticut resident Jared Fields has been given a second chance to rejoin the “Big Brother” house after being voted out by his fellow contestants in last week’s episode.
Fields, an exterminator from Norwalk, is one of the 16 contestants competing on season 25 of the CBS reality show, which premiered in August. His mother Cirie Fields, a four-time competitor of the CBS reality show “Survivor,” is also competing this season.
The show follows a group of people living together in a house, with cameras and microphones recording their every move. Each week, contestants compete for the title of ‘Head of Household’ through various challenges. The winner nominates two people for eviction
that week. The other contestants then vote to ‘evict’ one of the nominees. The last remaining ‘houseguest’ receives the grand prize of $750,000.
On Thursday’s episode, host Julie Chen Moonves announced that there would be a “double eviction,” in which an entire week’s worth of games would be played in less than an hour. Cory Wurtenberger won Head of Household and nominated Fields and Blue Kim for eviction. Matt Klotz won Power of Veto and kept the nominations the same, resulting in Fields getting evicted on a vote of 6-1, with his mother voting for him to stay.
Fields and Kim were given a chance to say a few words to their fellow competitors before the vote.
“Honestly I don’t have a big speech ready, clearly I wasn’t expecting this,” Fields said. “For the most part, I just hope that the relationships that I made with the people I knew I could trust and the people who I told I wanted to move forward with sticks. I don’t want to put any pressure on anyone to do anything drastic. I love you guys regardless. This is just a game...do what you got to do.”
If given the opportunity, he promised to fight for any competitors who voted for him to stay.
Cameron Hardin was also evicted during Thursday’s episode. At the end of the episode, Chen Moongroves told Fields and Hardin that they would be returning to the house as ‘zombies,’ in which one of them will be “resurrecting” their game.
On Sunday’s episode, Fields and Hardin surprised the remaining contestants by walking into the house in zombie garb. It was then announced that instead of an eviction on Thursday, Hardin and Fields would compete for the chance to rejoin the game.
Prior to the show, Fields told Entertainment Weekly that he’s confident in his ability to win
Big Brother season 25.
“I might be handsome [and] young, but I’m willing to get my hands dirty,” Fields said in a July interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I might not be the smartest, but I’m willing to figure it out. So, I am going to win ‘Big Brother’ because I have the will to be the ‘Big Brother.’ ”
In a statement sent to Patch, Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling congratulated Fields in July for being selected as a contestant on the show.
“I hope he knows that everyone at home here in Norwalk will be cheering him on as he competes for the grand prize,” he said.
Viewers can find out whether Fields will be back in the game by watching Thursday’s episode on CBS or on the Paramount+. The show airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST, Wednesdays at 8 p.m. and Thursdays at 9 p.m.
