Orlando LaPegna

-

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Orlando LaPegna. Orlando “Nonno” passed away peacefully with his loving daughter Mina (Bibeault), his “more like a son” sonin-law Thomas and his two cherished grandchildren Julia and Timothy by his side, at their home on January 6, 2024 where he had resided for the last 6 months. Orlando was born on July 1, 1932 to Pasquale and Antonietta LaPegna. He was born and spent the first half of his life in Acri, Cosenza, Italy. As a young boy, Orlando lived a simple life. He worked on farms to help provide for his family and was never able to attend school. When Orlando moved to the United States in 1971, it was then, he set out on his mission to invest in real estate so that he could gift all that he earned to his children so that they wouldn’t have to struggle financially the way he did. He encouraged education, honesty, and family values. Even in his most challenging days, his infectious smile warmed all those around him. He was predeceased by his loving wife Felicia and his two sons, Pasquale and Frank.

Orlando first worked as a landscaper until landing a job on the assembly line at Electrolux in Riverside. He then was hired by the town of Greenwich as a laborer until his retirement. In addition to working for the town of Greenwich, he also held a part-time position as a landscaper for many private homes in town but never missed sporting or school events for his children and grandchildren. Orlando was a die-hard Yankee fan who would often predict better outcomes “If he was the manager”. He was wise with his finances but never stingy with his gifts. He loved his casino trips to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun where he would treat his entire family to a memorable day. It brought him great pleasure to treat his family to vacations to Hawaii, the Bahamas, Florida, and Italy.

He was an avid gardener who sought to cultivate and feed the entire neighborhood if he could. Orlando wore his heart on his sleeve and would always give more than he took.

We would like to thank Cindy and Charlene, at Dr. Rana’s office, for over 25 years of care and compassion. We would also like to thank the Hospice team at Constellations for their outstanding care these last 6 months: Donna, Lana, Daniel, Amanda, Joe, Angela, Monicka, and Becky. THANK YOU is not enough to express our gratitude for your gracious care not just for Orlando, but for the family. You are all angels doing God’s work.
