GREENWICH — Greenwich Public Schools’ Chief Operating Officer Blaize Levitan will be leaving the district to begin working as Branford Public Schools’ COO in April. Levitan’s first day at BPS is April 29.

Levitan has been working as the district’s COO since 2022; before that, he worked as the assistant director of Greenwich’s Parks and Recreation Department, the town’s senior management analyst and the emergency management specialist for the University of Connecticut, according to a BPS statement.

“While (Levitan) will greatly be missed, the allure of working very close to home with his expanding family was something he could not pass up,” said Greenwich schools Superintendent Toni Jones in a statement to the district’s staff. “We wish him nothing but the best.”

Jones added that the district’s search for a new COO is underway.

According to Branford’s statement, Levitan is going to “be an asset to the district in working to develop a master facilities plan and bring to life the recently adopted Strategic Coherence Plan.

“His collaborative nature and understanding of project management and operational efficiency will continue to move the district in a positive direction,” the statement says.

“Blaize will be an amazing addition to our leadership team and a tremendous asset to the Town of Branford,” said Branford Superintendent Christopher Tranberg in a statement. “Blaize is not only a big picture thinker, he also sees the steps necessary to support and improve organizational coherence and effectiveness. It is clear he does this by building strong teams, approaching his work with positivity and remembering that students are at the center of our work.”

Levitan has a bachelor’s degree in political science, a master’s degree in public administration and a graduate certificate in public financial management from the University of Connecticut.

“I’m incredibly excited to join Dr. Tranberg and Branford Public Schools,” Levitan said in a statement. “Branford is an innovative district offering a world-class education. With a new strategic plan and new leadership, this is an exciting time to be part of the BPS community..”
