Health ‘scare’ kept Heidi Voight off the air

- By Andrew DaRosa

news anchor and reporter Heidi Voight has recently been off the air at NBC Connecticut, prompting questions from viewers about her whereabouts. On Friday, Voight took to Facebook to detail the reasoning behind her extended departure — citing a recent health “scare” that kept her in the hospital for a few days.

“I’m okay — but had a bit of a scare and some unexpected surgery I’m now recovering from. A normal Saturday morning at home with my girls changed very quickly. I’m glad I listened to my body, told my husband, ‘something’s not right,’ and let him take me to the (emergency room),” Voight wrote. “After four days in critical care and a trip to the (operating room), I finally started feeling better, and I am so grateful to all the doctors, nurses and staff for their compassionate care and determination in figuring out what was causing my symptoms.”

Voight did not elaborate on what the health issues were. She ended her message by promising to “see you all again soon.”

Last year, Voight was off the air following the death of her mother. It was later revealed that Voight’s mother, Claudia Voight, was killed in her Vermont home, according to Vermont State Police. Shawn ConAward-winning lon, 44, was arrested in Connecticut in December in connection with the homicide and pled not guilty. The case is still ongoing.

“Claudia Voight was stolen from this world. She was stolen from her family, from her children, and from my precious daughters who now ask me almost every day, “Why did Grandma go to Heaven?,” Heidi said in a statement in July.

Hailing from Milford, Voight has been a staple at NBC Connecticut since she joined the company in 2014 as a freelance reporter, according to her LinkedIn biography. Voight anchors weekday mornings from 4:30 to 7 a.m. for NBC Connecticut.
