- By Jessica Simms

GREENWICH — Greenwich Public Schools soon will celebrate the 2024 Community Service Award recipients.

The Community Service Awards “recognize student participation in service activities that help to improve both their school andthe community,” according to a statement. This year, the ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. on April 24 in Greenwich High School’s Performing Arts Center.

Since 1986, GPS gives these awards to elementary, middle and high school students. For the elementary schools, students are selected to accept the award on behalf of their school for service projects and activities they participate in during the year.

At the middle school level, one student is chosen from each of the three schools to receive an award and five high school students are selected from each of the high school’s houses.

One more high schooler will be recognized as the Fleishman Service Award winner. This is given to a student “who has made significant contributions to their school and community,” according to the statement. Former Superintendent Ernest Fleishman always presents the award in his name.
