Gulf & Main

SWFL JOURNAL

-

Saturday

Off and running into 2019. A jog down the beach toward a pastel sunrise is a great way to start the year.

Sunday

I always have to giggle at the sight of the island Polar Bears taking their annual winter plunge into the “frigid” waters of the Gulf. Who are they kidding, exactly?

Monday

Remember those glittery snowflakes my neighbors hung from their gumbo limbo for the holidays? I think the starlings claimed ownership. This was the last Christmas for that particular decoration.

Wednesday

Time for a little culture in my life. J got us tickets for the the-a-ter. Florida Rep always entertains. Who needs New York?

Thursday

Besides, much of New York seems to be here at this time of year. New Yorkers have discovered there is more to Florida than I-95.

Sunday

After a hectic Saturday trying to find the exact right shade of periwinkle blue for the guestroom, what better way to unwind than a little Jazz on the Green at BIG ARTS? Ahhhhh.

Tuesday

Started painting today. Want a fresh coat on the walls before K and J arrive for their annual reboot.

Thursday

Driving down West Gulf Drive today, I caught a glimmering glimpse of the Gulf between condos. Nice to be reminded it’s there, even if I’m not.

Saturday

A trip to Cape Coral may be in the cards this weekend for a serving of fresh local seafood. How could we not go to an event called ClamJam?

Monday

Good golly, where did that cold north wind come from? Tennis this morning was downright frigid. After one set, I could no longer feel my ears. But no one was willing to concede defeat to the wind chill. We played on.

Tuesday

OK, so my Northern friends call me a wimp— just because I like my fleece jacket, scarf, leggings and boots? I don’t get all that much chance to wear them, OK?

Monday

Time to start that license plate game while driving the roads of Southwest Florida. How many states can you find before the next stoplight? I saw one from ALASKA. Well, why not?

Thursday

Headed to Estero today for a little TLC. There is an “Old Florida” spa there that should make all my troubles melt away.

Friday

Gotta love this bumper sticker, spotted in the drive-thru at the bank: “I may be old, but I’ve seen all the cool bands.” Perfect Florida demographic.
