Another Sanibel Sunset Detective Classic

Tree Callister still keeping the islands safe

-

The Sanibel Sunset Detective has done it again: gotten himself into a death-defying predicament that will take all of his accidental charm and love of classic movies to escape with his head intact.

In Bring Me the Head of the Sanibel

Sunset Detective, the 11th in the popular local series, out in November, beloved private detective Tree Callister mixes it up with mobsters, an

FBI agent gone rogue and a female assassin, not to mention Frank

Sinatra and Jill St. John from the mediocre 1967 film about a Miami detective called Tony Rome. A fedora-clad Sinatra, as Detective Tony

Rome, shows up on a regular basis in Tree Callister's dreams to offer cogent advice.

Author Ron Base, who has established a significant fan base with his

Sunset Detective series, brings his own knowledge and passion for old movies to these pages. As a journalist, he wrote about the movies for the Toronto Star, and he has a few screenwriting credits in his background as well.

His love of the movies is contagious. After they finish this book, readers will want to find the best streaming device for Tony Rome, Lady in Cement, Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, and last but certainly not least, Lawrence of Arabia, all of which have roles in this entertaining detective story.

Base is a master of witty dialog and amusing plot lines. This story ranges from Sanibel to Miami to Morocco and back, and Base offers background and history on each location, while navigating his story forward.

Bring Me the Head of the Sanibel Sunset Detective has the usual cast of characters, among them: Freddie, the love of Callister’s life; his best friend Rex; Judy, his ex-wife turned crime boss; and the ever-suspicious local police officers Cee Jay and Owen.

“John D. MacDonald must be rolling in his grave,” Tony Rome says in exasperation about Tree Callister at one point in the book, invoking the godfather of all Florida detective fiction.

Not true when it comes to Bring Me the Head of the Sanibel Sunset Detective. Base delivers another perfect book for a day on an island beach. MacDonald would be proud.
