Gulf & Main

Monday

Do you know what happens to a carved pumpkin after three days in the Florida heat? It’s definitely scarier than the scariest Halloween ghouls we saw the other night.

Wednesday

It’s time to head across the bridge to stock the pantry before all the snowbirds glide in for the coming season—while there’s still room to steer your cart down the aisles without incident.

Saturday

It’s a beach day! There’s bright sun, a light breeze, a nice temperature and the Gulf is beckoning.

Sunday

Ahhh … A great beach day yesterday. Today I must recover on the lanai with a tall Bloody Mary while I finish what’s left of my beach read. Can’t go wrong with John D. MacDonald, an oldie but goodie.

Monday

Now I know why MacDonald is the granddaddy of all Florida mystery writers. He set the bar for all those who followed.

Friday

More than the usual number of colorful sails on the water lately. I found out it’s because the Hobie World Championships are being held at South Seas. These are pretty boats!

Tuesday

OMG, suddenly the holidays are upon us. Shell wreaths, shell ornaments, shell garland. It’s everywhere. Please, let’s just make it through Thanksgiving first.

Wednesday

The neighborhood is planning an outdoor holiday feast for those of us without family here. Take a chair, a dish to share—and give thanks for being where we are.

Friday

And the shopping begins. No online headaches for me this year. I’m supporting local businesses, all the way!

Sunday

We had a wonderful stroll around bucolic Rosy Tomorrows Heritage Farm in North Fort Myers, topped off with the freshest-of-thefresh brunch you can imagine. This is a field trip well worth taking.

Wednesday

Winter tennis players are back on the courts. Yay! But they are still complaining about the heat. Should we tell them what it’s like chasing the ball around in August?

Friday

Nothing like a full orchestra playing Christmas music to get you in the right kind of mood for what’s coming. Thanks, Southwest Florida Symphony.

Monday

Try as they might, Floridians cannot fool anyone into believing we live in a winter wonderland. Those LED snowflakes hanging on the palm trees just don’t work.

Saturday

M and I tried to escape the holiday hubbub via boat. Found a little inlet to anchor in and threw a fishing line into the water. Didn’t catch anything, except a nap. Ahhh.

Monday

Yoga at the Rec Center today to create a calm ending for 2019. Just breathe …
