SWFL JOURNAL
Friday
If it’s the first weekend in March, it must be the Shell Festival on Sanibel. Mollusk heads unite! Let’s celebrate the perfect seashells I’m forever hunting on our lovely beaches.
Saturday
If I can tear myself away from all those beautiful shells, time to head to another festival—this one celebrating music and art in Okeechobee. Word has it that Mumford & Sons may be performing.
Monday
I’m completely festivaled out, but more coming. It’s that time of year in Florida. No rest for the fun-loving.
Tuesday
Took the afternoon to relax and read Salt River, the new Doc Ford mystery. After taking a year off, Randy Wayne White is back at it.
Friday
M is itching to go to St. Pete for the IndyCar race. If it has wheels and a motor, he’s in. Me? I’m thinking a quiet weekend with nothing to do but go to the beach.
Thursday
My orchids are still in bloom from January. How is that possible? They love my front lanai.
Saturday
Bacon and Bourbon Fest in West Palm? Two of my favorite things. It may be worth a trip across the state.
Wednesday
Weather reports from up North are screwy. Some places warmer than normal and some colder. No matter—everyone is enjoying the sunshine here!
Friday
Maybe a little too much sunshine. The family in line in front of me at the drugstore was positively glowing. I hope they were buying some aloe lotion.
Saturday
Centennial Park was quite pungent today. The annual Garlic Fest made downtown Fort Myers smell like an Italian kitchen. Drool …
Tuesday
Selfies while biking seem to be a dangerous new trend. Let’s all pay attention on bicycle paths, OK, visitors? I’m talking to you.
Wednesday
Speaking of paying attention, I made a quick left turn onto Sanibel’s Dixie Beach Boulevard and there was a parade of ibises crossing the road. They don’t understand crosswalks. Disaster averted, but it was close.
Thursday
Last night I had a dream that Sanibel built a traffic school for wildlife. No more roadkill. Yes, crazy, but on this island, who knows.
Sunday
Did I see the Easter Bunny in my yard this morning? I guess it was just a plain old marsh rabbit, but maybe it was on its way to that traffic school …
Monday
OK, it’s been a long, busy season. Perhaps I’ve gone off the deep end.
Saturday
The tourist tide is beginning to ebb. Tamiami Trail is no longer a sea of vehicles. But I-75 North is another story, full of snowbirds headed home. See you next fall!
