“LadyCakes has just cre­ated our new­est prod­uct: crumb buns. They are a huge hit!” Bess Charles says ex­cit­edly. She is re­fer­ring to LadyCakes Bak­ery on Del Prado Boule­vard, which she co-owns with her hus­band, Jeff.

And it’s ex­actly that kind of en­thu­si­asm that the cou­ple put into all of their creations—from cho­co­late chip cook­ies to buttercream cakes to brown­ies to cup­cakes with daily fla­vors. The lat­ter in­clude lemon blue­berry on Mon­day and Tues­day, rasp­berry truf­fle on Wed­nes­day and Thurs­day, and cho­co­late peanut but­ter on Fri­day and Satur­day, along with many other daily choices.

The cou­ple moved to Cape Coral from up­state New York in 2005, back when the city was smaller. “Cape Coral is be­com­ing a larger city, but it still has that small close-knit fam­ily feel, which I en­joy,” ex­plains Bess. She first be­gan mak­ing cakes at her home in 2006. By 2014, Jeff had joined her in the busi­ness, which they opened that year in its cur­rent store­front lo­ca­tion.

LadyCakes reg­u­larly gives back to the com­mu­nity. “Re­cently, we have made some amaz­ing cakes for the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife and the Cape Coral An­i­mal Shel­ter fundrais­ers,” Bess adds.

The re­de­vel­op­ment of Cape Coral’s down­town area con­tin­u­ally pleases many res­i­dents, visi­tors and busi­ness own­ers, in­clud­ing the pro­pri­etors of LadyCakes. “I am ex­cited to see how the over­all vibe will change with the new de­vel­op­ment. I think it will change for the bet­ter,” notes Bess.

Good deeds and de­li­cious baked goods don’t go un­no­ticed. LadyCakes has been given Cape Coral Breeze’s “Best of Cape Coral” award for the fourth year in a row. “This year, we won both ‘best of’ in the bak­ery and cup­cake cat­e­gories,” Bess says. LadyCakes also re­ceived a Cer­tifi­cate of Ex­cel­lence on TripAd­vi­sor, and has re­ceived a host of other notable recog­ni­tions.

Re­cently, LadyCakes has been in com­mu­ni­ca­tion with The Food Net­work to pos­si­bly be part of an up­com­ing cake chal­lenge show for Halloween. (Last year, the net­work reached out about a po­ten­tial TV show host po­si­tion. Who knows who might get baked up next.)
