Celebrating Southwest Floridians
“LadyCakes has just created our newest product: crumb buns. They are a huge hit!” Bess Charles says excitedly. She is referring to LadyCakes Bakery on Del Prado Boulevard, which she co-owns with her husband, Jeff.
And it’s exactly that kind of enthusiasm that the couple put into all of their creations—from chocolate chip cookies to buttercream cakes to brownies to cupcakes with daily flavors. The latter include lemon blueberry on Monday and Tuesday, raspberry truffle on Wednesday and Thursday, and chocolate peanut butter on Friday and Saturday, along with many other daily choices.
The couple moved to Cape Coral from upstate New York in 2005, back when the city was smaller. “Cape Coral is becoming a larger city, but it still has that small close-knit family feel, which I enjoy,” explains Bess. She first began making cakes at her home in 2006. By 2014, Jeff had joined her in the business, which they opened that year in its current storefront location.
LadyCakes regularly gives back to the community. “Recently, we have made some amazing cakes for the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife and the Cape Coral Animal Shelter fundraisers,” Bess adds.
The redevelopment of Cape Coral’s downtown area continually pleases many residents, visitors and business owners, including the proprietors of LadyCakes. “I am excited to see how the overall vibe will change with the new development. I think it will change for the better,” notes Bess.
Good deeds and delicious baked goods don’t go unnoticed. LadyCakes has been given Cape Coral Breeze’s “Best of Cape Coral” award for the fourth year in a row. “This year, we won both ‘best of’ in the bakery and cupcake categories,” Bess says. LadyCakes also received a Certificate of Excellence on TripAdvisor, and has received a host of other notable recognitions.
Recently, LadyCakes has been in communication with The Food Network to possibly be part of an upcoming cake challenge show for Halloween. (Last year, the network reached out about a potential TV show host position. Who knows who might get baked up next.)
