Texas County residents voice questions for President Trump
TEXAS COUNTY-For the first time since the coronavirus outbreak, President Donald Trump planned to resume his campaign rally on June 19 in Tulsa, Okla., and was set to take place at the BOK Center. The date and location stirred lots of controversy considering June 19, or Juneteenth, commemorates the end of slavery, and one of the most intense massacres in American history, the Tulsa Race Massacre, occurred in Tulsa. President Trump then rescheduled his rally for Saturday, June 20 “out of respect” for Juneteenth, he said.
Residents of Texas County were asked what questions they would ask the president if they could attend the rally. One citizen, Eric Avalos, said that he will attend the rally. His response was,
“...if given the chance, I would ask when he is planning to give Dreamers a route to citizenship.”
Dreamers are recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which protects people brought to the United States as children from deportation and allows them to work. As of Thursday, June 18, the Supreme Court denied the Trump Administration’s plan to end DACA.
Samuel Ortiz, another Texas County resident, said he would ask Trump,
“What is your definition of ‘Great America?’”
In addition, many others expressed their concerns on various issues and what the President plans to do about them, while others expressed their support toward the President.
