Shirley Wray Cannon was born in a telephone office in 1932 in Hallett, Oklahoma to Richard and Lola Cobb Luton. She accepted Christ and was baptized in the Hallett Christian Church 1948. She was active in basketball, softball, school plays, a quartet and valedictor­ian of the class of 1950. On September 5, 1950, she married Marvin Boyd Cannon and moved to Ellinwood, Kansas. While in Ellinwood, she worked at Ben Franklin Variety Store and as a dental assistant.

Vanessa and Wayde were born in Ellinwood and in 1963 Boyd and Shirley moved to Guymon, Oklahoma. Shirley worked at Denny’s Dine-a-teria, J&J Furniture, Townsman Motel, babysittin­g and the telephone office while attending college at Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK. Amy was born during this time and Shirley assisted teaching at Kiddie Kanyon Kollege Kindergart­en. She graduated from PSU in 1972 and received her Masters in Education from K State in Manhattan, Kansas in 1982. She taught in Optima Schools for 20 years. After retiring she substitute­d in the Guymon and Goodwell school systems.

Shirley was a member and held a variety of offices in the Santa Fe Saddle Club in Ellinwood, Kansas, Texas County Sheriff’s Posse in Guymon, the Oklahoma Reading Council, Casa Contenta, Mobil Wives Club, Barber Sharp singing in Hooker and Guymon, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Loves and Fishes treasure and representa­tive for New Life, Auxiliary of Texas County Memorial Hospital, Coachman Club, children’s ministry of New Life, and delivered meals on wheels for several years. She was also a member of the Oklahoma Education Assn., National Teacher’s Assn., TCCRT retired teachers, Committee of Coffee Memorial Blood Center and Red Hat Society (Ding-a-Lings).

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Boyd Cannon, parents Richard and Lola Luton, brother Marvin and sister-in-law Gelene Luton and sister Imogene Luton, brothers and sisters-in-law Dale and Irene Mock and Vern and Delores Floyd, nephew Marvin Floyd, in-laws Flossie Prather and Quincy Cannon and great grandson Devin Ryan Adair.

She is survived by children Vanessa and Johnny Adair of Guymon, OK, Wayde and Brenda Cannon of Meade, Kansas and Amy and Earl Ansley of Morris Oklahoma, her special niece and nephews, Dale and Verlia Montgomery and Gary Luton and a host of others including “her girls” as she affectiona­tely called them: Rita Roberts, Sue Torchia, Nancy Anderson and Judy Vail.

She is also survived by her grandchild­ren Wesley and Nidia Adair, Chad and Tara Adair, Zachary and Tamra Dunlap, Hayley Dunlap and Cody Harris, Leah Ansley, Kassi and Isaac Boswell, Emmett and Andi Reimer, Gunnar Cannon and Megan and Heather Ansley. Great grandchild­ren are David, Eli and Kinzee Adair, Lexi and Leanna Adair, Jaden McCann, Brogan and Brynlee Dunlap, Rigs Whitaker and Bryson Roberts.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, October 24th at 9:00 a.m. at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. A Celebratio­n of Shirley’s life service will follow at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at the New Life Christian Center, 405 N. Main St. with Pastors John and Cathy Henry officiatin­g. For precaution­ary measures, masks are required at the service.

The Cannon family will greet friends at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home on Friday evening, October 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
