College student breaks wingeating record at local restaurant
GUYMON – Wednesday evening, Panhandle State senior Mario Martinez spontaneously took on a wingeating challenge at the Pub on the Bricks and set a new record.
Martinez was the first Pub customer to set out to eat 100 bone-in wings in one hour. Off to a great start, he finished the first 50 in roughly 10 minutes—however, he could only make it to 75 by the end of the hour. “I [didn’t] feel full, it just got annoying after a while,” he remarked.
According to Pub on the Bricks owner Michael Davis, a select few customers had attempted similar challenges at the restaurant in the past but only dared to try for 60 wings in an hour.
Though he didn’t reach his original goal,
Martinez far exceeded any previous attempts at the challenge. For his impressive efforts, Davis awarded him a free Pub on the Bricks t-shirt and waived the bill on his wings.
Davis stated that he wants to make the wing-eating challenge official at the Pub and offer a free t-shirt, as well as complimentary wings for the challenge, to anyone who can beat it. In addition, he wants to photograph the winners and hang their pictures on the wall in the restaurant as tribute to their accomplishment. He also mentioned that he plans to keep the challenge at 60 wings in an hour, as it may be unlikely that anyone could beat Martinez’s record.
The reigning wingeating champion currently studies computer information systems at Oklahoma Panhandle State University and plans to move back to Dallas, Texas, after graduating to pursue a master’s degree.
