David Grice

David R. Grice, 76, lifelong Texas County resident, passed away Tuesday morning, January 19, 2021 at his home in Guymon, Oklahoma.

David was born on April 17, 1944, at his grandmothe­r Grice’s house in Guymon. His parents were Gordon L. and Lavon (Forbes) Grice. When David was two, he moved with parents and brother, Rance to a farm northwest of Goodwell. His sister Carolyn was born after they moved to the Goodwell farm. David attended Goodwell Schools, graduating in 1962. David was baptised at the age of 12 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was in RA’s and 4-H. He played sports and worked on the family farm.

After high school David went to work in Guymon for Allen’s Inc. David married Gloria Poteete on December 22, 1962, at the Goodwell Church of Christ. They were married for over 58 years. To this union two children were born: Margrete (Meg) Lee Grice and Gordon David Grice.

David continued to work for his dad, he also worked at the Goodwell Garage. In 1969 the family moved to Guymon, David went to work for Texas County Feedyard. In 1971 David started a custom fertilizer business. After a few years, he sold that business and began Grice Wrecker Service, which he and his family operated for over 10 years. For the last 35 years David has processed and shipped scrap iron and other metals. He enjoyed operating heavy equipment and driving trucks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Lavon Grice, his daughter, Meg Grice, his grand daughter, Abilene Lavon Grice, his brother Rance Grice, and sisterin-law, Janice Grice.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria of the home; son, Gordon Grice and wife, Tracy of Somerset, Wisconsin, three grandsons: Parker, Beckett, and Griffin Grice, sister, Carolyn Blackwelde­r and husband, Albert of Hooker; son-in-law, Loyde Hales, sisters-in-law, Lavene Smith and Nadene Evins, and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family services will be Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home in Guymon, interment will follow in the Elmhurst Cemetery.
