Guymon swim team places seventh in Harrah swim meet

The GHS Tiger Swim Team competed with eleven other teams and placed seventh at the Harrah High School meet on Saturday, with a combined total score of 211 points. This was the first meet of the season for the Tigers, and although the team traveled with several swimmers absent, Coach Shannon Smith is very pleased with the participating swimmers' overall performance.
The Lady Tigers placed 8th with 73 points. The Lady Tigers who traveled to Harrah were Solana Vargas, Sydney Landers, Laramie Long, Sheralyn Morales and Kathy Zavalza. Sophomore Zavalza and Senior Landers both had a strong showing for the Lady Tigers. Zavalza had an 8th place finish on her 50 Free with a new personal best time of 30.62, while Landers placed 6th on her 100 Breaststroke race with a time of 1:28.02.
Competing for the Tiger Men's Team on Saturday were Jevin Setzer, Gage Gomez, MacKobe Merwin, Jose Saenz, Gavin Martinez and Cash Mains. The men's team placed 6th with a total of 138 points. Standout performances were seen by Gomez, Merwin and Martinez. Gomez placed 2nd on his 50 Freestyle with a new personal best time of 25.44. Merwin was seen with two top-five finishes on his 50 Free placing at 5th, with a time of 26.25, and on his 100 Yard Breaststroke race where he placed 4th, with a time of 1:11.76. Both of these times were new personal records for Merwin. Martinez placed 10th on his 200 Yard Freestyle with a new personal best of 2:17.94.
The Tiger Swim Teams will ravel to Altus next on November 12, where Coach Smith states that she is expecting her entire roster of twenty-two swimmers to be competing.
