OK Dept. of Commerce to showcase state during PGA Championship
OKLAHOMA CITY) – Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Commerce announced today it is the designated community partner for the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., May 16-21.
The Oklahoma Business Roundtable engaged the Department of Commerce to showcase the state’s pro-business environment and low cost of doing business to national and international business prospects and site selection consultants.
During the weeklong PGA Championship, the Business Roundtable and Department of Commerce will host more than 140 companies and site selectors.
These prospects include companies with several in-state expansion projects under consideration, prospective supply chain partners for existing Oklahoma businesses and Csuite guests that have previously visited or expressed interest in doing business in Oklahoma.
Founded in 1936, Southern Hills has previously served as host for four PGA Championship tournaments in 1970, 1982, 1994 and 2007, when Tiger Woods’ triumph captured the Wanamaker Trophy for the fourth time.
The Perry Maxwelldesigned
championship course recently completed an $11 million renovation which rebuilt every tee box, bunker and green, restored original water hazards and constructed new cart paths.
“Hosting the PGA Championship for a record fifth time places Oklahoma and the city of Tulsa in the spotlight with a national and international audience.
This week provides an excellent opportunity to leverage the PGA Championship to show the world that Oklahoma is open for business and is the best place to grow your company and raise your family,” Gov. Kevin Stitt said.
“I appreciate the support of the business community and all of the dedication and investment by the Southern Hills Country Club to make this yet another memorable event for the professional players and visitors.”
The partnership between the State of Oklahoma and the PGA of America includes accommodations at the PGA Championship, international television advertisements, and a private event for prospective employers highlighting the role professional and amateur sports play in Oklahoma’s quality of life and economy.
