Cowboys, Sooners receive 2022 bowl assignment­s

Wisconsin and Oklahoma State have both lost two straight games heading into their firstever meeting in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix on Dec. 27.

The Badgers are in a bowl for the 21st straight season, the third-longest active streak in the nation. Wisconsin hasn’t said whether new coach Luke Fickell or interim coach Jim Leonhard will coach the bowl game.

The Cowboys are in a bowl for the 17th straight season, the sixth-longest active streak. They lost five of their last seven games after a 5-0 start.

Sooners have challenge in Seminoles

No. 13 Florida State aims to halt a six-game series losing streak against Oklahoma when the schools face off in the Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando.

The Seminoles enter with a five-game win streak and finished second to Clemson in the ACC’s Atlantic Division. Oklahoma has dropped three of four, with each of the losses coming by three points.

The Sooners feature the Big 12’s top newcomer in quarterbac­k Dillon Gabriel, a UCF transfer who passed for 2,920 yards and 24 touchdowns.

The bowl marks the first meeting between the programs since OU won 23-13 in 2011.

Oklahoma: QB Dillon Gabriel was named Big 12 offensive newcomer of the year after passing for 2,920 yards and 24 touchdowns. The UCF transfer also rushed for 298 yards and five TDs.

NOTABLE

Florida State: The Seminoles finished second to Clemson in the ACC at 5-3, a one-game improvemen­t in league play but a four-game turnaround from last season. They closed the regular season on a fivegame win streak, including a victory over rival Florida.

Oklahoma: The Sooners’ last three losses have come by three points each. They rank 18th in

FBS offense (472.2 yards per game) and average nearly 33 points, which ranks 37th nationally. The Sooners are 6-1 against FSU.
