April 3, 1927-Feb. 16, 2023

-

Shirley Marie Moore, 95, of Guymon, passed away February 16, 2023 at home with her loving family.

Shirley was born April 3, 1927 to Elbert W. (Rance) and Lydia Erma Wilcox in Elmer, Mo. She graduated from Elmer High School in 1945, where she had already met the love of her life, Howard Moore, after years of being close friends with his sisters. Howard has often joked that as soon as he figured out that she wasn’t one of his sisters, he married her! They were united in marriage on Nov. 3, 1948. This coming November would have marked their 75th wedding anniversary.

On Nov. 1, 1951, they were blessed with their one and only daughter, Von Marie Moore. Shortly after, the couple relocated to Casper, Wyo. for 10 years, then on to Cheyenne, Wyo., followed by a few years in Attica, Kan. and, then on to Guymon in 1969, where they made their permanent home.

Shirley’s kind and friendly nature was perfect for the customer service positions she held in clothing stores/ dress shops and then Ed’s Carpetland, where she spent 20-plus years until retirement.

In September 1973, Shirley became Mamma with the birth of her first granddaughter, Christie, then again in June 1977, with the birth of her second granddaughter, Janice Lynn.

Howard and Shirley’s dedication to family was exemplified in 1979, when they took on the roles of Grandparent and Parent to their two granddaughters, when they came to live with them full time. They dedicated the next several years to school functions, countless camping trips and becoming Mama and Papa to a host of the girls’ friends.

Shirley enjoyed baking for her family

... her Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake was legendary ... camping with the Coachmen Club and Good Sam Camping club, making the best friends and the best memories, and summer family vacations. She loved traveling to visit her sisters, her brother and her sisters and brothers-in-law. There were so many unforgettable memories made on those trips.

Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sisterin-law and friend. You could always count on getting a birthday card, anniversary card and Christmas card from her. She was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church and lived being led by her faith. She will truly be missed by anyone that ever had the pleasure of knowing her.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Howard H. Moore of Guymon; her daughter, Von Marie Moore of Guymon; her granddaughter, Christie R. Kennelly of Sioux Falls, S.D.; great-grandchildren, Sarah (Zach) Saylor of Sioux Falls, S.D; Ashton Colson of Elk City; Lucas Kennelly of Sioux Falls, S.D; Hailey Colson of Mangum; Madison Kennelly, Lakyn Kennelly, Emma Kennelly, and Ava Kirsch of Sioux Falls, SD; great-greatgrandchildren, Raiden James, Landri Shae, Creed Michael, Remy Douglas, Ella Grace and Ansley J’Lynn, two sisters, Mona Lummer and Carolyn (Dale) Bean and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Charlotte Ann Grigsby, her brother, David Earl Wilcox and her granddaughter, Janice Lynn Colson.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. March 4, 2023 at the First Assembly of God Church, 804 NE 12th

St, Guymon.
